20.01.2022 First week back at training for our u12’s and u16’s. Great to see all players and coaching staff adhering to the Training Protocols. . Another beautiful sunset on the Peninsula..... #afl #footy #smjfc #mpjfl

16.01.2022 It’s been great seeing our tigers back at training this week but we just want to take a minute to remind everyone of the important club protocols that are a directive of AFLVIC and the MPJFL. Please do NOT arrive early for training. Get in, train, get out. If you would like to have a catch-up after training once you have left Citation that is fine, but there is to be NO early arrivals or catchups before or after the session.... There is to be only 1 parent/guardian per child at training. You can wait in your car or adhere to the social distancing around the footy oval. Please do not have whole families attend until restrictions allow it. If you would like to assist your child’s coach with training, please ensure you have completed your COVID-19 infection control certificate and sent a copy to your coach prior to the training session. We love helpers!!! Remind your child to sanitise their hands with the provided hand sanitiser when they arrive AND when they are leaving. Bring a water bottle for your child as the club will not be able to provide any for the time being. An email has been sent to all registered families, please make sure you take some time to read it. We hope everyone has enjoyed having their kids back out with a footy in their hands, we sure have loved seeing it over the last week. Thankyou, SMJFC Exec Committee.

15.01.2022 This video provides some basic kicking drills that kids can do at home to perfect their kicking. There also a couple more advance skills for the older kids to try too.. Let us know what sort of videos your kids want to see relating to skills and we’ll share videos with drill ideas.

12.01.2022 A post we were dreading having to make. Dear Parents and Players,... Due to the recent Victorian Government announcement regarding Covid-19 protocols, the MPJFL have taken the necessary steps to cancel the 2020 season. The SMJFC will implement this effective immediately and all training and practice matches have now been cancelled. With regard to registration - all fees paid to this point will be refunded to all parents. If you can please send an email to our club Treasurer Emily on [email protected], with your child’s name, team, and your BSB and account number, the money will be returned ASAP. As you can understand, this will be an arduous process so please be patient and we will ensure everyone’s money is returned at our earliest convenience. For teams who have already received jumpers, your Team Manager should be in contact shortly with details of how to return. Thank-you all for your time and efforts over the past few months. In what has been a very difficult pre-season, the attitude shown by our parents and players has been exceptional and we are grateful for all the support we have received.

09.01.2022 Lest We Forget...

08.01.2022 Att. SMJFC Parents and Players, Whilst the measures taken today by our State Government give us hope of a season resumption, we are still awaiting further instruction from the AFL and MPJFL, as well as relevant Government, Health and Local Authorities. AFL Victoria will seek clarity from the State Government around what today’s announcement means for community football. ... A number of considerations around health and safety protocols and insurance need to worked through before any training being sanctioned. Therefore at this stage we will not be resuming training until further advice is handed down by these groups. Once we seek clarity on season 2020, we will advise all Coaches and players immediately. Until we have a confirmed season length the SMJFC Committee have not made any decisions on registration fees. I understand the desire from everyone to get back to football, but the health and safety of our players, parents and administration remain our absolute priority at this time.

08.01.2022 Who do you think will win tomorrow’s 2020 AFL Grand Final? Tigers or the Cats ? It’s definitely been a strange year but we are looking forward to footy in 2021!

08.01.2022 A great way for kids to increase & maintain their running fitness and improve their speed is Interval Training. The aim of this drill is to raise your heart rate than slightly reduce it before raising it again. In this video we have chosen to use the goal posts at either end of the ground for our distance.... Set the timer for 30mins. Start by walking fast to the opposite end of the ground. Once you reach the goal post turn around and run as fast as you can all the way back to your starting point. Immediately turn around and repeat. Continue to do this for the full 30mins. Use the active recovery (walk) to catch your breath before running full speed again. Count how many laps you do and next time either match or beat that number. One lap is classed as up and back. Depending on the age of the child set the distance from 30, 50, 100 or 200 metres and timing from 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 minutes. Try to do at this 2/3 times a week. This can be done at the park, running track, oval or a safe space anywhere outdoors. Oh and mums or dads, you can do this too

Key kicking tips: Align hips & shoulders to the target Weight moving forward into the kick Guide the ball onto your foot Point toes Follow through We’d love you to take a pic or a short clip of you giving the drill a go and post it in the comments below Happy kicking Tigers
