25.01.2022 As 2019 draws to a close it seems a fitting time to also finish up my FB duties and make one final post of gratitude for all that I've learnt and experienced at South Mornington Preschool. I've loved teaching at South Mornington this year and can safely say it's been one of the most rewarding and valuable experiences both professionally and personally. My wonderful Echidna group have brought so much joy, laughter and learning into my life and I can only hope I've done the sam...e for each of these beautiful children. Sharing our adventures, especially our Bush Kinder reflections through FB has been wonderful and I appreciate all the lovely feedback and comments we've received throughout the year. It's been a great year for the preschool and I know it will continue to go from strength to strength as the new year begins. Thank you to the committee for your support. Thank you to the amazing staff for their unwavering belief and encouragement. Thank you to the families for allowing me to hold their children's hands for a little while; it's been such fun! Most of all, thank you to each of the Echidna children who have made every moment not only memorable but happy and joyful too! It's with a very happy heart that I wish you all a very happy 2020! 25.01.2022 A Bush Kinder Christmas celebration made for a wonderful end to a great kinder year. Kevin, the wonderful Briars volunteer was on hand when Santas sleigh broke down and transported Santa to the picnic grounds to surprise the children. What a thrill it was to see Santa arrive in the ATV! Prior to the Christmas celebration our 4 year old groups joined together for a bush kinder hike. We made our way up to the cubbies and spent time in our favourite places. What a joy it was to... watch our 4 year olds engaging in the bush kinder space they've grown to know so well. It is so rewarding to see the growth and development since we began bush kinder back in term 2. Our last session was made even more special by an inquisitive Emu that meandered through the group. Keen eyes also spotted a blue tongue lizard basking in the grass alongside the boardwalk. It was a fabulous ending to an amazing season of bush kinder. We are so grateful to The Briars for all their advice and support throughout the year. We can hardly wait to begin bush kinder again in term 2, 2020, with our new groups of children. See more

21.01.2022 Lionel from Living Culture visited our 4 year old groups at kinder last week. The children were enthralled as Lionel shared his amazing knowledge through art, music, artefacts, tools, bush medicine, bush tucker and much more. It was a fabulous incursion that had the children engaged and asking questions the entire time. Thank you Lionel, you were so generous with your time and sharing Aboriginal culture and traditions with us. We look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

21.01.2022 Over the past few weeks the children have enjoyed watching chicks hatching from eggs and observing them develop. During this time the teachers provided the children with a challenge, Imagine you are wearing X-ray glasses, what can you see inside a fertilised egg? The children then used water paint and markers to express their ideas through art.

17.01.2022 Two separate preschool events have been planned around National Tree Day (which is on the 2nd August 2020). Tree Planting at the Briars - Thursday 30th July During their Bush Kinder program at the Briars, our 4 year old preschoolers will have a chance to plant their own tree. A total of 40 trees will be planted as part of a re-vegetation project to restore native bush-land and habitat for native fauna as well as do our part to actively combat Climate Change.... Sustainability/Tree Planting Day - Sunday 2nd August The preschool will host our inaugural Sustainability morning to showcase our Sustainability practices, our (proposed) new Sustainability garden and promote the importance of planting trees and native vegetation. Three new advanced/mature Red Gum trees will be planted in the Adelaide street Reserve (next to the preschool) in partnership with the Shire's Advanced Plant Nursery. Families will also have the opportunity to plant their own native plant in new garden beds within the same reserve.

16.01.2022 Today we enjoyed our last bush kinder session for the year! The children each carefully signed a thank you card to show our immense appreciation to the Briars rangers for welcoming us each week. With festive hats donned the children delivered the card and chocolates to the rangers before we set off on our last bush walk. We spent our last session at the climbing log and became lost in our explorations and play. We created beautiful nature wands using natures treasures found o...n the ground all around us. Many children enjoyed climbing the log whilst others worked together to propel the bush swing. Watching the children today was so very special as I was able to reflect on the very special time and 1000's of memories we've made together during our time at bush kinder. It's amazing to observe how far the children have come since we began bush kinder back in term 2. Each of the children have gained in skills and confidence and are able to readily accept challenges, assess risks and attempt new things with positivity and gusto! Returning back to the visitors centre we enjoyed a snack and celebrated the end of a wonderful bush kinder season with a koala cupcake. It was a magic day at bush kinder! It was also bittersweet as both myself and the children have completed this very special chapter and we say a very fond goodbye to bush kinder in readiness for new journeys. For me personally bush kinder has been an invaluable and treasured experience and I couldn't have chosen a more perfect group of children to share it with. Thank you to The Briars for encouraging and supporting us throughout the year! We sure will miss bush kinder! See more

15.01.2022 This is a little Blue-banded Bee. The South Mornington Preschool community will be working hard in 2021 to create a pollination garden, thanks to the landcare grant we were recently awarded. We are looking forward to the seeing this amazing bee returning to our garden in the future.

14.01.2022 Bush kinder was full of wonder today! We were thrilled to spot a Tawny Frogmouth chick sleeping peacefully on a low lying branch. We then happened across a mob of kangaroos with a huge male that stood towering over everything around him. We visited the cubbies and got busy constructing and deconstruction, exploring and investigating. We then enjoyed reading some nature poems from our big, beautiful treasury of poems before celebrating a bush kinder birthday and heading back to enjoy snack. We are fast approaching the last bush kinder session so are making the most of spending time with the children before it's all over for the year and we have to bid our gorgeous groups farewell as they head off to school. We are so thankful to be able to share The Briars with our kinder children each week.

13.01.2022 Today the children were thrilled to see a rather large boat backing into the kinder carpark! Imagine their excitement when they realised they were about to enjoy exploring and learning about this impressive vessel. We enjoyed a great morning learning about boating safety and exploring the VMR boat. A huge thank you to Tim and VMR Mornington & Hastings - Volunteer Marine Rescue inc for visiting and sharing their knowledge with us. We really appreciate your time and effort today and enjoyed learning more about your wonderful volunteer service

There is no change to our term three return date (Monday 13 July) nor our term three operating hours/timetable. We want all our families to be assured that our occupational health, safety, hygiene and cleaning protocols as well as our risk mitigation procedures are robust. The safety of our children, families and community is vitally important.... If you, your children, or any person in your household are feeling unwell or displaying/experiencing COVID-19 symptoms, you must stay home and get tested. Symptoms include: Fever; Chills or sweats; Cough; Sore throat; Shortness of breath; Runny nose; Loss of sense of smell or taste. Less common symptoms include: headache, muscle soreness, stuffy nose, nausea, vomiting and diarrhoea.
