20.01.2022 Hello Students of Taekwon-Do, Courtesy, integrity, perseverance, self control and indomitable spirit are our five tenets and a big part of the Do in Taekwon-Do. Do literally refers to the way we do things and if there was a 6th tenet of Taekwon-do it should be gratitude. Even though we are going through difficult times, there is still a lot to be grateful for, so please be aware of this and practise your gratitude on a daily basis.... Dont forget to exercise! We are very lucky with Taekwon-Do because it is the perfect exercise system that you can practise at home. Here are a few tips I will give you now and in the following weeks I will have something more comprehensive for you. 1. Warm up. Go outside somewhere it is safe and walk or bike ride. You dont have to be cooped up inside all the time just be sure to maintain your personal distances and comply with current guidelines. Alternatively you can skip, frisbee or kick a ball in your backyard or garage. 2. Stretching. Follow the stretching guide on page 53 of the SPTKD Technical Handbook. 3. 50 of your favourite kicks. For example 10 front leg raises, 10 front kicks, 10 side kicks and 10 back kicks. If you do 5 kicks on each leg that you have made it to 50 kicks easily! If you can manage 10 kicks on each leg then congratulations, you have just completed 100 kicks! 4. Practice your Patterns. All Patterns at least 3 times each. 5. Practice your 1, 2, and 3 Step Sparring. On your own as attacker then defender. 6. Light Stretch to finish. Try to train at least 3 times a week. So feed your mind with gratitude and exercise your body with Taekwon-Do to help you become resilient. Do this and as the sun comes up every day you will be able to withstand the challenges in front of you and quickly recover. Yours in Taekwon-Do, Master Peter Barbour
