18.01.2022 Every day is another day closer towards another attempt at breaking the Outright Unlimited World Water Speed Record, right here in Australia! Dave Warby and crew had the Spirit of Australia 2 wound out to 402kmh (250mph) on the weekend during testing on the Blowering Dam NSW, Australia. The world record of 511.10kmh (317.58mph) was set by Dave's father, Ken Warby back on the 8th October 1978 and despite several attempts to beat it has stood ever since. The original machine, T...he Spirit of Australia was built by Ken in his back yard and sported a Westinghouse J34 turbojet engine which he picked up at auction for a whopping $69. The new machine is an improved version the the original designs and is now powered by a significantly larger Rolls Royce Orpheus turbojet engine, obtained from an ex Italian Air force Fiat G-91 fighter jet. While there is no official date set as of yet, the team are aiming for an official attempt at the record somewhere in 2020 and is hoping to reach and incredible 560kmh (348mph). 05.01.2022 Yet another reminder that these machines are not toys. Thankfully nobody was injured when a large flycutter was inadvertently ramped up to 12000rpm. This resulted in the tool flying apart and part of it making it's way through the back of the machine, through a wall and into another area of the workshop where by chance nobody was in the way.
