24.01.2022 BULLDOG BULLETIN - NOVEMBER 2020
24.01.2022 B GRADE REPORT 2020 Thanks to the lads for their efforts throughout the year. As a coach I couldn't be more proud of the way the guys played in that Grand Final, in particular. They did everything we talked about and got the result they deserved. I probably underestimated the youth in the team and for some it was their first full year in a senior grade, but those guys handled the step up well. We had even contribution from the first week until the last, and to say that the B... Grade has won three flags in 5 years is a tremendous achievement - full credit to the guys for being around the mark for that period because the A's are stronger for it. To Bolesy and Buck, it was great to work with you both again. Personally, I am always learning the game from you guys and it's not as easy a gig as it may seem from the outside. To everyone who helped on game days or through the week with teas and training nights, whether that be the cleaning of changerooms and footballs, hand spraying or the COVID Marshalls - you have done the best job you all could have done under the unique circumstances. Thank you. Adam Grantham
23.01.2022 We are very appreciative of the tremendous gesture by the Port Bulldogs Football Club. The picture shows a grateful South President Mick Kerin receiving a cheque for $400.00 to go towards the Will Bolitho fund from Port identity Midge Johnson. The Solomontown Cats Football Club have sent their apologies for not attending on Saturday. They have their AGM and player function on at this time. We welcome them back and wish them well as they prepare to return to the field in 2021.

22.01.2022 *IMPORTANT RAFFLE INFORMATION* Dear South family and everyone that has supported us in our fundraising efforts This year has presented us with challenges and we are blessed to have received the support we have, we may be out of our comfort zones, or our routines may have been disrupted in ways we could not predict... It has heartened us that your support has not wavered throughout the year The fundraising we have started for Will Bolitho is testament to that, whether it is a small raffle at the club, or the donations received in the boxes around town, to the footy match this weekend and our monster raffle all have been largely supported. We continue to seek your support for the raffle and would like to highlight that if you purchase a ticket via direct credit transfer to the club, we need you to send an email giving us your contact details We have people depositing money into the account with no contact details being sent, you have been allocated a ticket and you are in the draw but we need your details. Please send an email to our email address which is [email protected] Thanks everyone for your support and good luck in the raffle. Kind regards SAFC

20.01.2022 COLTS CORNER - UNDER 15’S REPORT 2020 To begin we were looking to have great numbers in the Under 15’s, with 25 plus players registered. Then when COVID-19 showed its ugly face and footy was cancelled, and then finally returned, our numbers weren’t so great. We managed to get a team together each week but relied on a number of Under 13’s playing up. We decided to train our Under 15’s and Under 13’s together. This gave us better numbers to work on and helped with both teams’ p...Continue reading
20.01.2022 MATT DOWNEY FAREWELL As you may have heard, Matt Downey is moving to Darwin to pursue a career with the NT Police. Matt first came to the club in 2016 while working as a scaffolder at the Power Station. He has rarely missed a game, rucking most of the game time in a lion-hearted effort. He is arguably the best ruck man in the clubs history. ... We wish Matt all the best with his future and thank him for his outstanding contribution to our club during his time here. Matt’s achievements include: 5 x A Grade premiership player - 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 2 x Best and Fairest - 2016 and 2017 Runner Up Best and Fairest - 2018 2 x Best Team Man - 2017 and 2018 3 x Frank Farr Memorial Round Table award - 2016, 2017, 2018 Most Dedicated - 2019 Most Consistent - 2020 Madigan Medal runner up - 2017 and 2018 SGL Representative - 2016 and 2017 SGL Team of the Year - 2016, 2017 and 2019 82 games total

17.01.2022 SGL AGM NEWS The 2020 SGL AGM was held a few Sunday’s ago, with some interesting outcomes: 2021 sees the continuation of the SANFL Players Registration Payment of $15 seniors / $10 juniors, which must be paid when registering on Sports TG for 2021. Every player at every club will have to pay this so it is basically no pay no play. This is NOT a club or SGL imposed fee. It does NOT replace club membership. The 2021 DRAFT season sees SAFC playing the following:... - 11 games at Central Oval, 1 at ETSA, 1 at Port Oval and 4 at Memorial Oval - Round 1 vs Ports - home game on Anzac Day Eve, Saturday 24th April - Round 3 vs Central - U15 Thursday / B Grade and U18 Friday / A Grade 5pm Saturday as part of double header, in lieu of Sunday game - Round 4 vs West in our one and only Sunday game - Round 8 vs Central at ETSA as payback for Round 3 double header, in lieu of Sunday game - Three of the first six games in Port Pirie. Nine of the last eleven games at home. ELECTION RESULTS President - Les Promnitz, re-elected unopposed Treasurer - Rod Gordon, re-elected unopposed It would be good to find a Port Augusta person to nominate for Vice President at the next AGM. All suggestions/nominations will be gratefully received. GENERAL BUSINESS Congratulations to new Life Member, Peter Flogger Flower - longstanding player / umpire / administrator. South to move a motion at next meeting to amend By-law 28 so all players in a team that is awarded a forfeit game will be recorded as playing, so able to add one game to their season / career total which will also count towards finals qualification. Colts Send-off Rule which was trialled in 2020 and worked well will be continued in 2021. Last kick out of bounds rule will be reviewed for the 2021 season. Discussion regarding 2021 Fixture confirmed that a 5-year cycle started in 2019, COVID-19 2020 was a hiccup to the cycle and thus the original 17 game 2020 fixture will become the 2021 fixture. It was great to be able to welcome Solomontown back on-field for the 2021 season. Congratulations extended to the SGL Executive, Board, umpires, clubs, players, spectators and sponsors for managing to get COVID-19 season 2020 up and running and successfully completed. It was a huge workload to achieve this.

11.01.2022 COLTS CORNER - UNDER 11’S REPORT 2020 Season 2020 was the most satisfying year from a coach’s perspective. For the past 5 years we have been putting in processes to develop the boys and this season was a big step up, finishing second on percentage, winning eight from ten games and beating all sides. There are some very handy young players amongst the team and our future looks healthy. Thanks to the Under 9’s that played up every week, sponsors and volunteers. Also, thanks to ...the parents that allowed us to coach this year without interference and develop that model behaviour at games - that is very important for all our boys. Well done to all. Trophy winners: Best and Fairest: Leo McInnis Runner-up: Zechariah Amos Most Consistent: Addyson DiPaolo Most Improved: Noah Kruger Most Courageous: Nate Lukich Coaches Trophy: Zayne Hitch Congratulations to the Under 11s Port Augusta Representatives Zayne Hitch, Leo McInnis, Addyson DiPaolo, Noah Kruger, Zechariah Amos, James Heritage and Seth McInnis. Lastly, a big thank you to those who donated trophies. Chris Heritage and Dean McInnis

Plus with the 1 per 4sm rule the clubs capacity is only 75 so you may be asked to leave if we are at capacity. Everyone’s cooperation with this is greatly appreciated
11.01.2022 UNDER 18’S REPORT 2020 We had a good balance of players in the side this year and even with the broken up pre-season due to COVID, we were going into the season with some confidence. The side had some good wins and let a few wins slip through their fingers, but the boys will learn from those experiences. Sitting fourth at the end of the minor round, we had a win in the First Semi Final, then went down in the Preliminary Final to finish third overall. A couple of injuries dur...ing the season to Tom Clancy (fractured collarbone) and Dalton Gade (fractured arm) - both season ending. Congratulations to Patrick Kennedy and Rex Waterworth who both debuted in the A Grade side this year, and Ethan Reid clocking a few more games in the A’s. A big thanks to Jack Menzies (Right Hand Man), Trish Waterworth (Team Manager and Guernsey Cleaner), Nicole McInnis (Head Trainer / Bubble Wrapper) and Anthony Hey Hey Anno (Runner / Left Hand Man). Cameron Reid
10.01.2022 COLTS CORNER - UNDER 13’S REPORT 2020 After a delayed start to the season the South Augusta Under 13’s were prepared to play after a short but sharp pre-season. Beginning the season against West Augusta in Round 1 with a worrying 56 point loss, this soon turned into a positive with a victory over Centrals in Round 2 by 21 points. The season would continue in a similar pattern with victories mainly against Centrals and losses coming against Westies. A highlight of the season ...Continue reading

We hope to see everyone again next season and good luck to those juniors that move up to Under 9s.

02.01.2022 Here is a little bit of history from the year 2000! What was your best memory?
02.01.2022 A GRADE REPORT 2020 What a start to the 2020 season - going from not having a competition due to COVID-19 to then only having a ten round season. We started off slow with a loss to Westies. This in my opinion was a blessing in disguise as it made the players aware that getting that historical 5-peat wasn’t going to be easy. Thankfully we had a great leadership group that supported the players and a strong line of talent to step in with our youngsters. Throughout the season w...e maintained a strong team line-up, only having five or six changes. Unfortunately each season you expect to have a few minor injuries, however this year our team was hit hard with a major injury and one that will be forever life changing. Billy-Jo Russell was playing consistently each game and was playing some fantastic football before breaking his collarbone. Will Bolitho took a big hit and was flown to Adelaide with a broken back. Thankfully he has movement and is back walking - we hope to see him around the club soon. His hard at the ball attitude was a big loss and hopefully with his resilience and fighting spirit we may see him on the field again one day. I would like to thank the coaching staff, runners, trainers and water people for all their help this year, along with all the people from behind the scenes changeroom cleaners, COVID Marshalls, the Management and Football Committees. If we did not have these people working behind the scenes this season wouldn’t have been able to go ahead. The players may have been the team on the field playing football and bringing home the 5-peat but without the Club, we would not have had the chance to bring the premiership back. Lastly, I would like to say how proud I am of the lads - they worked hard this year at training and most weeks executed my plans into the game. They always went into every game confident in the team and this is why we are here with a 5-peat. I have enjoyed the last five years coaching and with the current players and the up and coming juniors, I can see them being a strong team for years to come. James Boles
