15.05.2022 Practical advice for match officials: throw-in At the moment of delivering the ball, a player must throw the ball from the point where it left the field of play.... Referees are encouraged to benefit the game by being proactive and indicating the correct position of throw-ins as players are not always aware of the exact position. Law 15 states that ‘if the throw-in is not taken correctly, it is retaken by the opposing team’. Therefore, if the throw-in is taken from the wrong position, in principle, it is an offence and the throw-in should be retaken from the correct position by the opposing team. 17.04.2022 Practical advice: sanction for goalkeepers At the taking of the penalty kick, before the ball is in play, the goalkeeper moves off the goal line with both feet.... Is the kick always retaken and the goalkeeper sanctioned? What disciplinary action does the referee take? Law 14: PENALTY KICK (DURING THE MATCH) The referee takes disciplinary action against the goalkeeper if the goalkeeper’s offence results in the kick being retaken. The kick is retaken if the goalkeeper offends before the ball is in play and: prevents the ball from entering the goal the ball misses the goal or rebounds from the crossbar or goalpost(s) provided that the goalkeeper’s offence clearly impacted on the kicker In these situations, the goalkeeper is: warned for the first offence in the game cautioned (yellow card) for any further offence(s) at the retaken kick and/or any subsequent kick The kick is not retaken (and the goalkeeper is not sanctioned) when: the goalkeeper offends and the ball enters the goal a goal is awarded both the goalkeeper and the kicker commit an offence at the same time only the kicker is cautioned and play restarts with an indirect free kick to the defending team bit.ly/PenaltyOffence bit.ly/PenaltyOutcome Law 10: KICKS FROM THE PENALTY MARK (AFTER THE MATCH) Unless otherwise stated, the relevant Laws apply to kicks from the penalty mark (KFPM). Players, including goalkeepers, may be cautioned or sent off. It must be remembered that warnings and cautions issued during the match (including extra time) are not carried forward into KFPM. The goalkeeper receives the sanction if their offence results in the kick being retaken (see above). The goalkeeper is: warned for the first offence cautioned (yellow card) for any subsequent offence(s) If both the goalkeeper and the kicker commit an offence at the same time, the kick is recorded as missed and the kicker is cautioned. bit.ly/Kicks_PenaltyMark Download the official app: bit.ly/LawsAppAndroid bit.ly/LawsApp_iOS
