15.01.2022 ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON MACPP We hope you are safe and well during these difficult and strange times. Our thoughts are with those affected ...in any way (particularly those of you who have been diagnosed with the virus). Some of you have asked, and others will have been wondering, how the COVID-19 problems will impact on the 2020 Mullins Australian Conceptual Photography Prize (MACPP). After considerable discussion, we are now able to let you know what is going to happen. Firstly, and most importantly, the 2020 MACPP will still proceed. We will be sticking with all dates as scheduled except that the gallery print exhibition will be replaced by an online exhibition in the first instance. The judges will make their decisions by viewing the entries on monitors, and arrangements will be made to livestream the announcement of the winners at 6.30 PM AEST on Thursday 9 July 2020, which is when the gallery print exhibition had been scheduled to open. The gallery print exhibition will still happen at a rescheduled date when Magnet Gallery is able to reopen whether that be September, October, November this year or even some time next year (before the 2021 exhibition of course). We will encourage the finalists to get their prints made and framed ready to send to Magnet as soon as they are ready to receive them. If, for any sad reason, the gallery print exhibition is never able to happen Magnet will still acquire the winning print. Necessary changes will be made to wordings as soon as possible on the APS website and on the 2020 MACPP entry portal on MyPhotoClub. We urge everyone to enter this wonderful 2020 MACPP so that, despite COVID-19, it will be a huge success that the Society can build on in the years ahead. We also urge you to support Magnet Gallery, MyPhotoClub and our wonderful sponsors Australian Photography magazine, Emergent Designs, MomentoPro and Quest NewQuay at Docklands in any ways that you can. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. Brian Rope Roger Skinner 0429 681 178 0407 002 777 [email protected] [email protected]

10.01.2022 Howard Speed, the SAPF Historian delivered his final report at the 2020 SAPF AGM on Friday, 28th February. Not many people know that, Howard was a school teacher in his early years when technical subjects were still taught. His teaching subjects were Carpentry and Photography. Howard also served in the Army Reserves as a Radio Operator. On his retirement Howard set off to see the world travelling to various places around the globe photographing with his trusty camera as he w...ent. He became a member of not only the North Adelaide, yes you heard right, the North Adelaide Camera Club but also the Port Adelaide Camera Club Incorporated. For quite a few years he was a judge for the SAPF and a management committee member. His greatest love in photography was its history and he became the driving force behind the SAPF historic collection. He, along with a couple of helpers in Ron Heptinstall and Graham Taarnby, completed the compiling, cataloguing and digitising of the SAPF Permanent Collection this year. Howard is pictured below with his plaque as a thank you for his dedication to photography in South Australia. PS: Happy Birthday Howard Speed!! See more

06.01.2022 Are you struggling with the current restrictions on your camera club activities? Here is some inspiration from a group of SA Camera Clubs. A 30+ year history of a Three Way Competition being held between Clare Camera Club, Riverland Camera Club and Murray Bridge Photography Club has been able to continue despite the current restrictions. Usually, each club has a turn of hosting the competition with a weekend of photography and friendship with the host club show casing thei...r area for the clubs to get a chance to use their cameras and on the Saturday evening a shared meal and then the competition in the evening. Sunday morning another get together before we leave for home. This year, the actual weekend gathering was cancelled, but Strathalbyn and Districts Camera Club joined in, making a new Four Way Competition which was conducted and judged remotely. Julie Moulds, Secretary MBIPC, would personally like to thank each of the clubs for their input and suggestions when plans needed to be changed and a big thank you to Susie Lipert who agreed to judge the competition remotely with entries being submitted via USB. Congratulations to Riverland Camera Club for gaining the highest aggregate points - only Six points separated the clubs this year which attests to the high quality of the images presented by members. Image Credit: 2020 4 Way Top Image "Dog Versus Beast" by Jenny Reid (screen shot from video) Competition entries & results can be viewed on the MBIPC Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/MBPhotoClub/ Contact details of all four clubs can be found on the SAPF Regional Clubs page https://www.sapf.org.au/country-affiliated-clubs In this time of Corona virus restrictions, it is so nice to see camera clubs finding ways to continue with as many of their club activities as possible. SAPF would like to thank Clare Camera Club & Murray Bridge International Photography Club for providing information for this SAPF News article. If your club has been able to continue with their activities, please let SAPF know, and we can share your story too! See more
