07.05.2022 Show n' Tell! This week children had the opportunity to bring a special item in and present this item in the group discussion and answer questions from friends. Public speaking teaches children skills such as: presentation, communication, critical thinking, listen with attention and also helps with their confidence and self-esteem.

18.04.2022 Children in our Montessori program are exposed to sequential learning in the core curriculum areas of practical life skills, sensorial exploration, numeracy, literacy and culture studies.

25.01.2022 A few weeks ago on January 22nd, the children at Southbank had a lovely morning picnic to celebrate the beautiful country that we live in, and respect the land owners for their sacrifices. Children brought their favourite toys, enjoyed yummy food, and also listened to stories about Australia.



24.01.2022 On 20th July children and staff came to Southbank Montessori dressed in their pyjamas. The children had lots of fun making popcorn and pancakes, watching a Dr Seuss movie and doing art and craft. The day was very relaxing as the children enjoyed the comfort of the "Pyjama Day" event.

22.01.2022 Over the month of May our Bilby classroom learnt about dinosaurs. They learnt about the archaeology as they tried to unearth the dinosaur fossils. They did a classroom experiment on how the lava from active volcanoes might have destroyed the dinosaurs and caused their extinction. Children also made dinosaur footprints and we created a matching job in our classroom where children were able to match all types of dinosaurs with the correct name cards. Everyone loves this job!

19.01.2022 Puzzle Distance Game! This is a practice which is often used in Montessori classrooms to keep the children moving and to encourage them to remember information. Choose your childs favourite puzzle and place it in the living room. Have them build the puzzle in a different room so they have to walk back and forth to find a piece!

19.01.2022 Southbank Montessori Berwick centre focused on NAIDOC week from November 8th - November 15th. Children’s NAIDOC engagement included learning to count in Noongar, the meaning and making of Aboriginal and Torres Straits Island flags, boomerangs, puzzles, musical instruments and colouring-in pictures. 17.01.2022 On September 1st we celebrated educators day here at Southbank Montessori. 14.01.2022 Happy Diwali to all families!! Here at Southbank Montessori, we celebrate cultural diversity and recognise a range of celebrations, teaching our children the importance of learning about different traditions. Diwali is known as the festival of lights, originating in India. During this festival, people often decorate their homes with lights and oil lamps, as well as celebrating with family and friends!

12.01.2022 At Southbank Montessori, we are focusing on educating our children about germs and hygiene practices. We do this continually in our programme but we have introduced experiences to build deeper understanding with our surrounding circumstances with Coronavirus. We did an experiment to show how soap works in germs so children are able to look after themselves by washing hands.

09.01.2022 During the month of June our Bilby classroom children been exploring the planets and solar systems. We were privileged to have one of our Bilby parents come and talk to the children about rockets. It was a very informative and enjoyable time. We love how our parents get involved in our childrens learning at Southbank Montessori!

09.01.2022 On Tues 14th July and Wed 15th July the Bilby and Wombat classrooms at our Berwick Street centre had a visit from the Association for the Welfare of Children in Hospital who presented a Hospital Familiarization Program. The children enjoyed discussing the importance of the different roles within the hospital such as nurse, patient and doctor. The children also enjoyed playing with and exploring the different medical equipment provided and trying medical procedures such as listening to heartbeats, bandaging and giving injections. The main aim of the hospital familiarization program is to provide the children with knowledge of common medical equipment and procedures and to lessen fear and anxiety that a child may have about hospitalization through education and play.

09.01.2022 We are still open, we are still offering a full quality program that has been adjusted to enhance the safety and wellbeing of your children. We still have consistent staff, the children know and love, who are dedicated, passionate and put the needs and welfare of the children first. We are a calm, caring oasis in what can be a challenging world right now.

09.01.2022 Our children at Southbank Montessori Berwick Street centre learnt, in a group session, how we can look after our planet Earth. They also read books about energy, water and recycling to gain an understanding about how to care for our planet.

05.01.2022 On August 24th 28th here at Southbank Montessori we discussed and highlighted the importance of the book week. We discussed about the authors, what stories tells us and how we can create our imagination. Our children learnt the importance of the books which provides new experiences, awareness building about the world outside home; improves communication, building greater vocabulary, speech patterns and enunciation; improved concentration, story time providing an ideal incentive to build concentration; and a lifetime love of books!

03.01.2022 Parents from our 18mnth to 3yrs centre attended a parent information night on 29th July to discuss toilet training their toddlers. This was the fist parent information night since covid-19 restrictions were eased and went well. We admire our parents who work closely with us, gaining valuable information to implement at home. It was a very informative night!

01.01.2022 Last Friday we had Linzy from St John’s Ambulance here at Southbank Montessori Berwick centre. She read a book on 000 Hero to children and shared how paramedics provide first aid to people who are hurt or ill. What a great educational experience!
