17.01.2022 BOM UPDATE - The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning - Southeast Queensland for DAMAGING WINDS, LARGE HAILSTONES and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in parts of Somerset and South Burnett Council Areas. Issued at 5:42 pm Tuesday, 24 November 2020. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 5:40 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on the weather radar near the area south of Kingaroy. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east. They are forecast ...to affect Nanango by 6:10 pm and the area north of Nanango by 6:40 pm. Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it's flooded, forget it. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. Council wishes to advise that an additional round of funding for Australia Day Events Sponsorship has opened through Council’s Community Grants Program. 07.01.2022 UPDATE - Drainage Improvements Hood Street, Proston - Council wishes to advise that drainage improvement works will commence on Hood Street, Proston (between Collingwood and Rodney Streets) on Monday, 16 November 2020 and is expected to be completed by early December, weather permitting. The week is an Australia wide initiative from the Safer Australian Roads and Highways - SARAH - Group, partnering road safety organisations and the Government. 02.01.2022 WATER METER READINGS TO COMMENCE SOON - Council wishes to advise residents that Council and/or its appointed water meter reading contractors will soon begin reading water meters throughout the region. 02.01.2022 Refurbishment work to commence on Council’s finance building - Council will soon commence works on Council’s finance building, which will incorporate roof replacement, new flooring/carpet and re-painting. Facilities including the Kingaroy Town Hall, Reception Room, public amenities and the car park behind the Kingaroy Town Hall can still be accessed from the entrances located in the Kingaroy forecourt and at the rear of the complex.
