20.01.2022 World Osteoporosis Day - 20 October 2020 Bone tissue loss generally begins around 40 years of age, when we can no longer replace bone tissue as quickly as we lose it. You can help stem the tide of bone loss by; ensuring bone-healthy nutrition with sufficient calcium, protein, vitamin D and important micronutrients. Bone mineral density is a term that refers to the thickness and strength of your bones, which is measured by a Bone Mineral Densitometry (BMD) scan. BMD is a speci...al type of X-ray that provides information on your bone mass or fragility, and the risk of fractures or broken bones - the higher the density, generally the lower the risk of fracture. For further information on BMD, visit: https://www.scr.com.au/services/bone-densitometry-dexa/. 19.01.2022 While most of us were enjoying some well earnt rest during the festive season, it was all systems GO at our Smith Street site, with the installation of our new GE 3T Signa Pioneer MRI. This entailed the removal of the window and CT scanner from level 1, seen from Smith Street Motorway! Our new MRI is equipped with AIR Recon Deep Learning Technology, resulting in significantly quicker scan times and consistently superior image quality. Our Smith Street MRI will be servicing patients from February 2021. 1300 197 297.

19.01.2022 The International Day of Radiology (IRD2020) is celebrated annually on November 8, with the aim of building greater awareness of the value that radiology contributes to safe patient care, and improving public understanding of the vital role radiologists and radiographers play in the healthcare continuum. IRD2020 will therefore be dedicated to all diagnostic imaging professionals and their essential role in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, making an indispensable contribution t...o the diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19 patients. South Coast Radiology invites everyone to celebrate the critical role that medical imaging has played, not only during the pandemic, but everyday. We ask our wonderful staff to look back at the hard work and challenges they have faced over the past months, and recognise their own contributions and those of their colleagues and friends. #IDOR2020 #IRD2020

13.01.2022 Week 1 progress from our 2020 Mo Bro, Sam Bradshaw: "I am happy to be involved in Movember and be SCR's Mo Bro for 2020. This year has been trying for many people, so to be able to raise a few dollars for Men's Health and help support mental health and suicide prevention programs seems especially important this year. Promoting fundraisers like Movember also acts as a reminder for men to stay on top of their health and have their checks, as Covid-19 has been the cause for man...y men to miss appointments and neglect their health." 10.01.2022 15-21 November is National Skin Cancer Action Week. Australia has one of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world, including melanoma and non-melanoma skin cancers. Every year in Australia skin cancers account for around 80% of all newly diagnosed cancers. During National Skin Cancer Action Week and throughout summer, use the five forms of sun protection and #OwnYourTone: - slip on sun-protective clothing - slop on SPF30 (or higher) - slap on a broad-brimmed hat... - seek shade - slide on sunglasses. A combination of these measures, along with getting to know your skin and regularly checking for any changes, are the keys to reducing your skin cancer risk. #OwnYourTone See more

06.01.2022 HAPPY AUSTRALASIAN SONOGRAPHERS DAY! Today is your day to be recognised as the expert in ultrasound. Ultrasound imaging is a non-invasive, painless test that is performed using a smooth hand-held transducer. Ultrasound is readily available and cost-effective, therefore is often the first diagnostic test ordered to directly assess the area of interest in real time, including; pregnancy, organs such as the heart and blood vessels, swelling and infection, and abdominal, pelvic and musculoskeletal pain.
