22.01.2022 For all those with questions regarding the latest SCHOOL SPORT REBOOTED post from yesterday (including whether or not a certain sport will be played) the majority of questions will be answered on the Queensland School Sports - Sports Information website. https://queenslandschoolsport.education.qld.gov.au/sports-i The information released was in accordance with health directions. We understand it is extremely disappointing for students, parents, coaches, managers and all involved in sport to be unable to trial or play, but we are sure you will agree that all decisions are made with each player's health and well-being as the top priority.

10.01.2022 SCHOOL SPORT REBOOTED! In line with the Queensland Government's easing of restrictions, the Department of Education has announced a staged return of 2020 school sport in Queensland. We are excited to have the opportunity to re-engage students in sport across the state, and view this as an important component in their health and wellbeing, as we emerge from a period of more stringent COVID-19 restrictions. The planned re-emergence of representative school sport aligns to the ...latest Queensland Government Roadmap to easing Queensland's restrictions (stage 3 Roadmap to easing Queensland's restrictions), the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport in a COVID-19 Environment and the Return to Play Guide for Queensland sport, recreation and fitness industries whereby state schools will be able to conduct inter-school and representative school sport for both indoor and outdoor sports. The truncated timeline remaining within the school year has required the Department of Education and Queensland School Sport to carefully evaluate which state championships could continue, and those that would be unable to progress. A number of factors, in addition to limited time available and the aforementioned planning documents were considered including student safety and wellbeing, event logistics and sport-specific requirements. The full revised calendar (PDF, 59KB) for sports which have been re-booted in 2020, can be seen on the Queensland School Sport website as well as the South Coast regional trials still to be conducted, which can be seen below. As all National Championships have been cancelled by School Sport Australia for the remainder of 2020. Queensland teams will not participate at National Championships (with the exception of 15years Boys and Girls Cricket, who will travel in 2021). School Sport Queensland will however be selecting Merritt teams at all state championships of sports that are being rebooted. This is an unprecedented situation and the Department of Education and South Coast team are grateful for the understanding of our school communities as we work to support our students. We understand that it is disappointing for students and families not to be able to engage in the full array of state championships usually available, and we have worked hard to provide as many opportunities for students across the state to still have representative sporting opportunities throughout the remainder of 2020. Your eagerness and excitement in sport is something we share, and we hope you will support our school communities, students and staff during the coming months.

07.01.2022 Important notice: All representative school sport cancelled until 30 June 2020 Given the recent advice provided by Queensland Health and the Australian Government with respect to containment of COVID-19, a decision has been made that cancellation of all representative school sport events will continue until 30 June 2020. The representative school sport program includes district, regional, state, national, interstate and international competitions.... Please ensure that you have cancelled all bookings associated with representative school sport events made for this time period. The department will continue to provide ongoing communication as Australia’s response to COVID-19 evolves. 03.01.2022 This is a communication from the Department of Education this afternoon: As you are aware, the Australian Government has announced that all organised, non-essential mass gatherings attended by more than 500 people must be cancelled from Monday 16 March 2020. While the announcement was very clear this does not apply to schools, and that there is no need for mass school closures, it does include activities such as fetes, fairs and concerts involving more than 500 people. ... Social distancing measures are also being implemented including ceasing full school assemblies and staggering lunch breaks. As our response to COVID-19 is all about containment, a decision has been made to cancel: the representative school sport program which includes district, regional, state, national, interstate and international competitions Queensland School Sport team participation in any national, interstate or international events organised across Australia or internationally. This decision is effective as of 17 March 2020 and will continue until further advice. These directions support the effort to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19. Our schools play a vital role in this effort and I ask for your continued support and attention to actions that will support this containment effort. This has been a very difficult decision and not one taken lightly. These directions are about supporting the effort to contain and slow the spread of COVID-19, and have also become operationally necessary based on participants; available staff coaches, managers, and supports; umpires and referees; venues; as well as a clear school sport pathway. For latest updates, visit the Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) advice webpage. This information will also available on the Queensland School Sport website and can be distributed through your networks. Thank you.
