15.01.2022 FINALS DAY Minor Singles - Steven Murray played Michael Anderson. Steve jumped out to an early 10-1 lead only for Michael to slowly work into the game and narrow the gap. From there it was pretty much shot for shot, until Steve dropped the only 4 of the game to trail 17-20. Followed by an exchange of shots to make 18-21. This proved a wake up call for Steve as he then went on to win the next six ends straight, picking up the required 13 shots for victory. Running out 31-21 wi...nner. Congratulations to 2020 Minor Single Winner Steven Murray Mens Fours - Team Webster (S Anderson, Mick Bruce, Con Vlastaras & R Webster) played Team Goodwin (R Johnston, M Kane (sub) G Robbie & K Goodwin). Team Goodwin won 2 of the first three ends to lead 3-2, unfortunately this was the last bright spot for them in a tough game. Team Webster played the better of the bowls winning 11 ends straights to lead 24-3 after 14 ends. There was to be no fairytale finished as Team Webster continued to a convincing 29-8 victory. 14.01.2022 Our South Coogee Ladies Minor Singles Final was played on Wednesday 14th October. Joan Love and Christine Shean two very competent bowlers were both excited and a little nervous going into this game but the nerves settled once the game got underway. Joan was the first to score in the first two ends but Chris soon settled down and it was a close battle between the two ladies. The score during the match had Chris leading until Joan kicked into gear winning three ends in a row ...to put her one shot away at 13 to 14. Chris then drew away by gaining a 3 on the 18th end and even although Joan picked up the odd shot Chris was ahead and with the long ends was able to pick up a 3 and a 2 on the last two ends to seal the game with a 25 to 19 win. Great game ladies, I know you were both giving your all and playing this Final in great spirits and the drinks certainly went down well in the club after this exciting game. Our Ladies 2020 Minor Singles Champion is Christine Shean and Runner Up Joan Love. Congratulations ladies. Marker - Ladies President Barbara Robbie.

14.01.2022 On Friday 20th November our South Coogee Women’s Bowling Club held the first ever combined members and their guest Xmas Luncheon and Xmas Raffle Draw at Bistro on the Greens. It was a fabulous day with some 60 people enjoying the luncheon and the company of all members and guests present. Our Xmas Raffle was a lot of fun. Thank you Margaret Judge and her hard working team of Joan Love, Robyn Yates and of course our creative Selector, Judy Browne working her magic as usual... with the raffle prizes. A huge thank you to Gary and Filomena and their very efficient staff for helping to make our day the success it was with a very well presented colourful and Xmassy Bistro to set the day up for lots of laughter and fun. The food was fantastic and a big thank you to the Club for opening early and to Michelle behind the bar who kept the beer and bubbles flowing and she said she enjoyed the spirit of the day. Our Ladies Committee raised a lot of money with raffle sales and a big thank you to Gary and Bistro on the Greens for donating 10% of the luncheon takings to the Ladies Committee to add to the money raised on the day. Gary and Filomena also very generously donated a raffle prize of $100 Bistro Voucher as a prize which was won by a lucky Deborah and Kevin Goodwin. Gary’s wine supplier donated a dozen bottles of the very moorish Stonefish Shiraz wine for the raffle as well. Gordon Milne and his trusty camera took dozens of photos and I have only included a few below but Gordon assures me that he will be including others in the next Club Newsletter. The day was such a success that I’m sure it will become a must on our social calendar each year but, not at Xmas time as this was a one off to help the club and our Bistro who have been through a pretty hard time with lockdown and the COVID safety rules that have limited the number of people the club can have on its premises at the one time. A very big thank you to all the members who supported us and we wish you all and your families a very Merry Xmas and let’s all hope that when this aweful 2020 leaves us at New Year we have a very happy and healthy and prosperous 2021. Kind regards and a big thank you to you all Barb Robbie Women’s President

10.01.2022 On Saturday 1st August our long awaited last Semi Final of the Ladies Major Singles against Kerri Hamer and Judy Browne was played. Kerri was first to score then Judy got her eye in and kept Kerri from scoring over the next six ends. Kerri fired back and by the 18th end the score was even and see sawed for a few ends until Judy, who was never really off the jack, came home strong scoring a 4 and a 3 on the last two ends to take out the game 25 to 16. The game was played in ...great spirit and could have gone either way. Congratulations Judy who has won her spot in the Ladies Major Singles Final against Louise Berka to be played on Saturday 15th August, it will be a really good game of bowls.
