25.01.2022 Haven't got a bushfire plan? Better get on it now while you've got time to think clearly and consider options. When a fire is fast approaching is not the time to wing it! It could have serious consequences for you or others.

25.01.2022 A handy graphic for those who haven't required SES assistance previously. Please be patient if you do call for assistance as it's likely to be a busy few days. Our crews are also on standby to assist SES if required.

25.01.2022 Please note, tomorrow's Total Fire Ban includes the City of Cockburn (as well as the metro area and a fair chunk of WA!). Visit https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au/totalfirebans to find out what you can and can't do under TFB conditions. Report any signs of smoke to 000 and any suspicious behaviour to 1800 333 000

24.01.2022 Congratulations to our sister brigade Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade on their new station. It took a bit to get there but we're sure it was worth the effort.

24.01.2022 Today is International Fire Fighters Day, a day we remember falllen fire fighters. A special mention to those who paid the ultimate price in the Eastern States fires this season.

24.01.2022 Ive been with South Coogee for around 6 years now. Its been incredible. I feel so lucky to be part of a team thats committed to the community, gains skills Id never have learnt in my everyday life and make some wonderful friendships along the way. #InternationalWomensDay2020 #SCVBFB

23.01.2022 I joined South Coogee Bush Fire Brigade just over 12 months ago. As a mother (especially teenagers) I wanted to teach my kids that helping others in time of need is something you can proudly achieve in a volunteer role, Im also following in my Dads footsteps as he was also a firefighter. My time so far at South Coogee has taken me out of my comfort zone and given me challenges that have pushed me personally, physically and mentally and I have enjoyed every step, I have met... an amazing group of people that are now just like family. I enjoy being a volunteer firefighter if anything I wish I joined sooner. #InternationalWomensDay2020 #SCVBFB

22.01.2022 Summer is here! How's your bushfire plan coming along?

18.01.2022 As of midnight yesterday the 28th of April, we are now in restricted burning period. What dose this mean? - Rural burning of bush or scrub smaller than 1m... You can burn off tree branches and leaves without a permit during the restricted burning period. The below rules apply: Light the fire between 6pm and 11pm and have it put out before midnight Notify your neighbours Have a clear area around the fire area of five meters Have equipment on hand to control the fire (i.e. a garden hose) One person remains onsite for the entire time the fire is lit The area to be lit up is no larger than 1m and does not contain materials such as plastics or wet lawn clippings that may produce offensive smoke. If you cannot meet these requirements, you will need to dispose of the materials by other means or obtain a valid Permit to Set Fire to the Bush from a City of Cockburn Fire Control Officer. - Rural burning of bush or scrub larger than 1m You will need to obtain a Permit to Set Fire to the Bush. 18.01.2022 Two of our members heading over to NSW in task force sierra to assist after both already fighting the fires down in WAs south at Balladonia. Stay safe and come back in one piece.

18.01.2022 Air support at a fire is a massive advantage for fire fighters working on the ground, but one drone in the area will ground the entire air fleet! Don't make our job harder than it already is, keep your drones well away from fire incidents.

18.01.2022 Not that we dont love to hear from you but if you see smoke, be sure to make that 000 hotline bling!

17.01.2022 To the mothers of our members, and our members who are mothers, we wish you all the best for Mother's Day and thank you for your support.

17.01.2022 Happy Friday! This week we've upped the ante with our challenge. We got a little excited and ran out 3 filler hoses from the hydrant to the appliance, problem is they got entangled and only 1 is actually connected to the hydrant. So, which 1 do we connect to fill the tank? If you're enjoying these challenges and have an idea for others you'd like to see, send us a PM and we'll see what we can do during our next appliance checks.... #staysafe

16.01.2022 G’day all!! It is with great pleasure the brigade can give you some good news for unrestricted burning commencing. With the recent rains seeing a significant r...eduction of the KBDI/SDI the chief bush fire control officer has advised there will be no extension to the Restricted Burning Time and the City of Cockburn has entered Unrestricted Burning Times as of 1 June 2020 for all areas zoned Rural as per the City of Cockburn Fire Control Order. As always please be mindful of weather conditions, fuel management processes, staying in attendance of any burn being conducted, water sources and obviously letting your friendly neighbors know you will be burning. If you would like for the brigade to assist you with any hazard reduction burning please feel free to contact us via face book message and we can help you out.

16.01.2022 Big THANK YOU to Lumpers Crib for their donations of drinks. It’s been a hot few days and nothing is better than an ice cold drink to cool down.

15.01.2022 Our girl is back after over 3 weeks assisting at Balladonia, and through many crew changes. She's a little battle scarred and covered in red dust but from all accounts served all crews well. Time for a well earnt bath!!

15.01.2022 Every ANZAC Day we assist Jandakot Volunteer Bush Fire Brigade in hosting a morning service at Banjup Memorial to remember those who gave their lives for our country. This year, due to social restrictions, our members will be joining many others around Australia in a #DrivewayDawnService, and we'd like you to join us. All you need to do is light a candle and be on your driveway at 5.55am on ANZAC Day with a radio tuned to ABC or a commercial radio station to hear the service. You can follow up with a gunfire breakfast with your family. Further information is available at https://www.rslwa.org.au//rslwa-invites-aussies-to-embrac/

15.01.2022 Welcome to this week's challenge. As promised, it's more difficult than last week's (well, maybe slightly!). Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to identify which of the 3 adapters is required to join the hose (right) to the branch (left). No need to tell us the answer, but perhaps challenge others in your house to see who pick the right one the quickest.

15.01.2022 Our latest recruits started on their fire fighting journey over the weekend, having successfully completed the first of their basic training courses. Congrats and welcome to the South Coogee family.

15.01.2022 Update: this burn is now complete. HAZARD REDUCTION BURN Please be aware there is a hazard reduction burn currently being done on Henderson Road Munster.

Ive grown up around fire stations and fire trucks and was always interested in being a part of the DFES family. 04.01.2022 Today, on WOW Day, we'd personally like to thank Cockburn State Emergency Service for their continued assistance during each fire season. This often involves late night/early morning runs to perfom crew changes, this season ranging from Yanchep to Mandurah, and occasionally at short notice. This allows our crews to concentrate on fire fighting and for us to maintain fresh crews on the fire ground. #thankyouses

04.01.2022 As of tomorrow, October 1, the City of Cockburn will be in a restricted burn period until 30 November. 03.01.2022 We enjoy attending community events to spread the fire safety message and mingle with the people we train hard to protect. Unfortunately, as a result of protocols to minimise the impact of COVID-19 on our emergency response capability, we have cancelled our attendance at all events until further notice. We will continue to maintain our FB and Instagram presence, and respond to PMs where we can. Needless to say we will continue to respond to 000 calls as required.

03.01.2022 Please be aware of your surroundings. Keep away from the fires and watch for emergency vehicles and personnel.

02.01.2022 FIRE FACTS Organic soils are sought after by our farmers because of their high nutrient content They are however, not a friend to firefighters! They are hig...hly flammable and produce large amounts of smoke containing chemicals and fine particles. If burnt, they can also cause environmental devastation. If a fire is approaching an area of organic soil, firefighters use aggressive direct attack suppression tactics and large amounts of water to prevent the soil igniting If the soil has ignited, firefighters can use thermal imaging cameras to detect hotspots under the surface. As not all fires can be seen above ground, it’s important to be aware of your surroundings and follow advice in alerts and warnings on www.emergency.wa.gov.au

02.01.2022 Extension of the Prohibited Burning Period All resident please note that the Prohibited Burning Period has been been extended by 14 days and the Restricted Burn...ing Period suspended by 14 days through to midnight 14th April 2020 by the Chief Bush Fire Control Officer of the City of Cockburn. This mean no permits will be issued by the City of Cockburn during this time and no fires should be started on your property during this time. Due to the lack rain received, this is still creating conditions that will be persistent in the spread of a bushfire so now is not the time to be doing your fuel reduction. For any further information, contact the City of Cockburn on (08) 9411 3444 or [email protected]
