25.01.2022 Top buyers tip if you're in the market for a Ford Territory 2002 -mid 2008 or a BA-BF Falcon pre MKII 2002 -mid 2008, try to check for this ignition switch problem or give us a call if you're in South East QLD we may even be able to check it out for you, we've seen a lot of customers recently who have just purchased cars from dealers and within weeks has failed on them. 90% not springing back after starting. You know it's about to fail as it just doesn't smoothly spring back... after starting or feels a little stiffer when turning the car on and when it springs back, it's quite noticeable or it will jolt slightly. Usually we can inspect it and tell if there are signs of it beginning to fail or fall apart and given the price of the cars these days it can be a substantial part of the purchase price in repairs. If these cars are going really cheap chances are the owner's are aware of this issue and they don't want to fork out for a steering column replacement and don't know about the service and try to offload the car to an un-suspecting car yard who is in for the quick flip at a cheap price to get it out the door(most car yards including Ford don't check). If you're not sure and already have purchased one we are happy to inspect them to give some advice and repair them before they become a problem, we have many customers who own a falcon and a territory and opted to get both fixed just for piece of mind.

23.01.2022 Sometimes you think you've seen it all being a specialist but this was a first. This Ford BF Fairmont had sneaked through a local car dealership in this condition many years ago and the customer reported weird electrical issues since owning it but just put up with it. Someone has tried to put the ignition switch back together and broke the backing plate, not only that but lost a piece of the plate and decided to glue it back together like a broken cookie.... The customer couldn't believe what I was showing them and extremely grateful they contacted the right people to fix it properly and as a bonus fixed all their weird electrical issues with the vehicle. Keep in mind you can't buy these wiring harnesses and backing plates so think twice if you think you'll give it a crack at a DIY repair. Luckily we had sourced some for emergencies like this and we were able to help this customer out and give them the satisfaction of a lifetime guarantee.

23.01.2022 Something to keep in mind if the ignition doesn't spring back after starting the car and it's left like that for an extended period of time, when we repair the ignition we often find the key has caused wear on the barrel resulting in it to grind when removing the key which can even end up getting jammed in the barrel down the track. This is because the key/barrell is no longer under tension from the spring mechanism in the ignition switch and weight on the keys lets it sit at an angle in the barrel. Sometimes not addressing the ignition switch problem can and will cause problems elsewhere.

17.01.2022 We turned up at a job today to see this presented for a repair, needless to say we didn't want to work on it either and the mechanic made a wise choice to do some research of his own and found us and was amazed at quality repair we completed with minimal fuss. The customer sourced it from a local wreckers who claim it was reconditioned for $250 and no warranty, then asked if his local mechanic could fit it who knew better than to install that. It appears they also pulled the... switch apart to perform their "magical reco" and man handled it back together causing further damage to the switch housing and splitting the peen points. No doubt we would have seen them soon anyway had the chosen to use this bodged up steering column. What would you think if you found this little gem hidden in your car?

17.01.2022 Customer this week with a BF XR6 had it garaged for 10 years, 100,000km on the clock and started parking outside and using as a daily driver. Within 6 months they started to experience the switch beginning to fail and eventually near the 12 month mark it fell apart leaving them stranded with the key in the on position. Always a good idea to check if your ignition fails and are not mechanically minded to check if you still see lights on in the dash indicates the ignition is ...stuck in the ON position and to disconnect the battery so you don't lose that too! We've repaired a large number of switches this summer that have fallen apart due to the wiring plate expanding and contracting in the switch housing over time from the massive heat differences and eventually warps the switch housing causing it to simply fall apart. Yes you can get it bodged up and put back together but in reality it's just going to happen again. This is the perfect example of why a second hand steering column or putting it back together is a bad idea particularly in the northern states of Australia where we see extreme temps and also why we simply will not rebuild your switch with anything other than what we use.

16.01.2022 With spring and summer looking to be a scorcher for South East Queensland, we always see an increase of Ford ignition switches failing and falling apart as the temps go up leaving you stranded. Please don't hisitate to call we are available 7 days a week to assist you!

10.01.2022 Another great story of a happy customer we attended to recently that I thought I'd share as it's the classic patch up fix we see on just about every job. This particular customer has an almost mm precise spot to start the car and never could get it started by fully turning the key in the barrel. She got sick of it and called us fearing she would be stuck on the side of the road somewhere at an inconvenient time when it completely failed. We traveled to Maroochydore to inspe...ct the BA Falcon in her work carpark. She later went onto explain that the steering column had already been replaced since purchasing the vehicle for $5k and then forking out $1200 on the second hand column replacement which then began to show symptoms of a failure soon after and then called a to be un-named mobile mechanic who appeared to rebuild the switch in the column which was now failing for a third time!! We fixed it onsite in 35 minutes and the ignition switch was back to normal and she couldn't believe that you could actually turn a key all the way to start the car now like a normal car would. All in all a $5k car had more than 50% of it's value in repairs before it was actually fixed properly using the reliable switch kits and she was excited to know she can now sell her car in future with confidence it will pass a road worthy and pass on the lifetime warranty to the new owner and won't leave her stranded somewhere.

06.01.2022 Great work guys, a perfect example why we only install these replacement switches, anything else just isn't worth it...At least now they have had it repaired properly.

04.01.2022 Make no mistake there is no substitute for a quality repair. Come across this youtube special today, some jerk passed the problem onto a new owner and it didn't last long. A bit un-australian if you ask me
