25.01.2022 It was great to see Kev Seaby dust off his bowls and get back in action at the Southern Cross Bowls Club on Thursday. Playing with Cate, Steve T, Bill, Cheryl, Steve F, Marlene, Barry H, Brian, Joe, Val and Linda, I’m sure all those great shots of his came flooding back. At Crazy Bowls on Saturday, congratulations went to the team of Barry Ziebell and Kim Hankinson for winning with the most points accumulated over the three games. The green was running well and the 20 bo...wlers who were there, made the day very enjoyable. 2nd place went to Vince Hemmings and Geoff Davis. Geoff ran the Lucky Numbers Sweep and surprise, surprise, his lucky number came up. There might be a bit more scrutiny next time or at least, more volunteers to run it. Thursday October 1st, the ladies will be having a Committee Meeting at 10.30am and then hosting Social Mixed Bowls at 1.00pm. All welcome including beginners (bowls supplied). Any enquiries phone Cheryl 0407 641 158. Saturday October 3rd, Social Mixed Bowls are to commence at 1.00pm. Be there by 12.30pm. All welcome. Club Men’s B Grade Singles will commence at the same time with Vince to play Pat, Liam v Allan, Val v Wayne, Barry Frame v Rob Francis with Greg Johnson getting a bye. Check with Clark 0427 673 277. Sunday October 4th, overflow of the District Mixed Pairs as well as club Men’s B Singles will be played from 10am. Wednesday October 7th, a combined Men’s Committee and Management Committee is scheduled for 5pm. I don’t know how much truth there is in the rumour that there is a film crew looking at Southern Cross for another episode regarding sport and exercise and things to do in Warwick. Stand by! 23.01.2022 Perfect conditions for the 48 bowlers competing in Wednesday‘s Turkey Triples saw more smiles and action than ever. This time, the team of Vince Hemmings, Roger Cavanagh, and Ralph Tate made it to the top. ... Second place went to Bill Lee, Ron Phelps and Geoff Creighton who played well as usual. Another team came in with high hopes, but ended up at the wrong end of the points score. Sid Morris, Steve Tyter and Steve Ford, all good players, proved that you can’t be good all the time and so their dreams were slightly shattered on the day. Barry Frame, Alan Buse, Alex Mattiazzi, Lyn Collie, Steve Ford and Julie Buse were all lucky enough to get their tickets pulled out in the raffle and took home the rum, scotch or the cash. See if they can remember who's shout it is at the bar next time.

11.01.2022 Congratulations to the team of Steve Tyter, together with new player, Robyn, and Cheryl Wickham who accumulated the most points to win prizes in the crazy format of bowls at the Southern Cross Bowls Club on Saturday. Runners-up amongst the 23 bowlers were the relaxed ex president Dave Scotney, Barry Ziebel and new player Andrew, going down to the wire, but coming up trumps with a fantastic last bowl from Dave. Afternoon tea was extremely delicious especially with the home...made goodies generously provide by some members. Yum! Thursday September 24, Ladies Champion of Champion Singles will take place, plus Social Mixed Bowls hosted by the ladies are on at 1.00pm. All welcome including beginners (bowls supplied). All welcome. 12.30pm is the cut off time to get a game, so please make sure you are there before then so the selectors have time to work out the teams. 06.01.2022 44 players and a great sponsor made Sargent Kenny day a huge success on Saturday and luckily nobody got arrested for egg throwing, however Crack An Egg was eagerly contested when everybody had a chance to pick up a scratchie by displaying their bowling prowess. Gone were the days of bowling to the Jack, instead you could show how good you are and bowl to an egg. I’m not sure how many winners scratched off $10,000, but for a change they were pretty tight lipped. Winners ...of the day were Geoff Davis with Alan Buse from Legume and Judy Richardson from Tenterfield, taking home the big cash. Judy put in a great performance and said she loved playing with the boys. Runners-up were Bill Lee, Barry Heffernan and Linda Hartley. Third place were Ewar, Barry Frame and Jules. Julie Foster, Randy Russell with Kev Mooney (who said he was injured picking up the soap) brought up the rear in the points tally. Everybody had a whale of a time with a fantastic number of great raffle prizes won. The Irish pea and ham soup and the Irish stew went down a treat to finish off the day with a pint of Guinness available to wash it down as well. Val Gray said our St Patrick’s Day Bowls that he will sponsor, will be even biggera and bettera. Is that Irish? Thursday September 17th, the ladies are hosting Social Mixed Bowls at 1.00pm.
