25.01.2022 We are introducing some old look new technology for residents in some of our homes, with retro handsets specially designed for mobile phones and iPads to make phone calls fun again. Combining old school style with new technology helps our residents to relive the good old days and enjoy the classic feeling of twirling the telephone receiver cord around your fingers until its all tangled up as you chat happily with your family and friends.
25.01.2022 A Santa photo booth has been set up at our Campbell care home in the ACT to allow residents, families and staff to take and share photos of this wonderful time of year. Preparations an planning are now well underway for everyone to celebrate during the festive season.
25.01.2022 We're excited to have our Greystanes care home residents featured in an intergenerational news story tonight on Channel 7 and on the ABC. The intergenerational program connects residents with school students for mutual learning, empathy, respect and faith. Today, students from Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School in Greystanes provided some socially distanced Christmas cheer to residents and put some smiles on the faces of young and old.
24.01.2022 We want to congratulate Vijin from our care home in Casino on recently accepting the role of Deputy Facility Manager. The friendly working environment at Casino is something Vijin really loves and one of the many reasons he's so thrilled to be working with us. "It's very person-orientated here and it really motivates me," he says. Outside of caring for our residents, it's pretty obvious Vijin likes to keep pretty busy. He is a keen cricket player, taking to the pitch for the local Casino Magpies Cricket Club and he is also a DJ with a Certificate 3 in Electronic Music Production.
20.01.2022 For many of our residents like Lorraine and Betty, its time to put the finishing touches on the Christmas tree and decorations. These 2 best friends from our Corowa care home couldn't wait to break out the egg nog and get cracking with preparations to welcome Santa after such a difficult year. The COVID-19 pandemic will not impede Santa or his helpers’ entry on 24 and 25 December, thanks to an extra-special exemption granted by the NSW Minister for Health Brad Hazzard. Mr Ha...zzard has confirmed that Santa, his elves and nine reindeers are not required to complete a 14-day isolation in hotel quarantine after their sleigh crosses the NSW & ACT borders. Lorraine and Betty were thrilled at the prospect of having a Christmas with Santa and connecting again with relatives. Lorraine's daughter lives in Victoria and having Santa and her daughter now able to cross the borders is great news. Betty says more than anything else, Christmas just makes her happy.
19.01.2022 This year due to COVID restrictions, our Thornton Park NSW residents were unable to invite families and friends to their annual memorial service so, residents and staff came together in the Chapel to remember and celebrate the life and memory of those who are no longer with us. Many residents and staff were in attendance and all involved throughout the service with the lighting of candles, hanging of hearts, poems, songs and in presenting white roses that were placed into a vase.
18.01.2022 Leslie Goldsmith was a resident of our St Lawrence care home in Harden NSW, but little was known about his background and war time experiences. Les had no contactable family and after his passing, no home for his war medals and belongings. Thanks to some caring staff members, Leslie's story can now be told, and his efforts acknowledged. A permanent commemorative wall unveiled on Remembrance Day pays tribute to Leslie and others who displayed courage and self-sacrifice. read the full story here.
18.01.2022 NAIDOC Week was recently celebrated at our Maroubra care home. The week celebrates the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Residents gathered in the function room and welcomed elders past and present, as well as welcoming new resident, Mary. Mary has extensive knowledge of Aboriginal Arts and was very happy to provide a presentation for the residents on the history of Aboriginal Arts, followed by mixing of paints and drawing activities.
16.01.2022 Our Merrylands care home have created a 'photo gallery' in their hallways, displaying lots of different activities, events and arts/crafts that residents have participated in during COVID-19. Residents were able to share memories and reminisce with each other during their walks through the gallery, which serves as a positive reminder of how life can go on during the COVID-19 crisis.
16.01.2022 Our Parkes care home are getting ready for Christmas and holding their 'My Kitchen Rules Big Christmas Cake Bake Off Competition.' Residents were split into teams & competed to make the best Christmas Cake in preparations for the big day. There is some fierce rivalry amongst the residents and some varying opinions about how much sherry is needed to soak the fruit.
14.01.2022 Spring is still being celebrated around our homes. In Grafton, there was peace and love in the air, and perhaps some confidence about a little normality returning after such a challenging year.
11.01.2022 Remembrance Day is an important time of reflection for our residents, their families and friends. Many of our residents have served in wars and conflicts or know someone who did, so it's important to honour them and commemorate this very special day. For many of us, we'll never know the battles fought and the hardship endured on our behalf.
09.01.2022 Our Plumpton care home has organised Christmas market stalls, giving residents an opportunity to shop for gifts for family members and friends. The stalls are very popular and continue over coming weeks with gift wrapping stations also set up so residents can have their gifts presented with a touch of class! Residents and staff have also been busy decorating the home with large blow up decorations, Christmas Trees, Christmas solar lights and much more and plan to give their residents a Christmas to remember.
09.01.2022 Our Corowa care home residents were very excited to be recently having their first church service since February. Rev Richard played the piano and gave an encouraging message about new seasons ahead. Everyone appreciated the positivity after such a challenging year. Residents could also be heard singing along to some of their church favorites as the Rev Richard asked for requests.

07.01.2022 Our residents reflected on Remembrance Day this week and remembered all those who have lost their lives in wars and conflicts, and the sacrifice our service personnel have made in war time. Many residents have very strong memories and emotions about their experiences, but it's also an opportunity for them to share their stories, and for us to listen.
06.01.2022 The 2020 Tokyo Olympics may have been cancelled, but older people all around Australia are still taking part in the Tokyo Marathon, including some of our very own residents. The 30 day marathon included completing legs of the track and passing Tokyo landmarks as they race around tracks set up at aged care homes. It is hoped the Tokyo Marathon will awaken the competitive spirit within our residents and inspire them to move more. Our Maroubra Kildare Team have completed more than 80 Marathons now! Their efforts have inspired both young and old to keep moving during COVID-19.
06.01.2022 Our Plumpton Village residents were encouraged to join in fundraising for the Cancer Council NSW by walking in a Relay for Life event recently. The funds raised will help fund vital cancer support services, and our residents know it just takes one person to make a difference. Our generous walkers & contributors raised over $600.
05.01.2022 Ron Hill is a resident at our Caves Beach care home. He calls it his 'home away from home'. Ron considers himself lucky to receive recognition for his contribution to the war effort and was humbled to receive his 75th anniversary commemorative medallion and certificate. The medallions are being made available to every living veteran of the Second World War. Ron risked his life every day for our country and we are thankful we can now help him feel safe and cared for.
05.01.2022 Due to the cancellation of the Leeton Show, the local show society invited the community to create a No Show Scarecrow to display along the fence of the showground. Our residents were inspired to create their own mother and baby scarecrows for the showground display. There were a lot of creative minds contributing to the job at hand and everyone was proud of their efforts.
