17.01.2022 It is very scary with the number of dog bait deaths currently reported in Brisbane dogparks and surrounds. With these, unfortunately there may also be copycat b...aits now too. Please look out for your dogs. Use caution in dog parks. Always have your dog in your sight and pay active supervision. Short leash when walking, no heads disappearing into garden beds etc where you can’t see. Teach your dog reliable leave it and swap cues. If your dog is trained to wear one, a basket muzzle should be considered, as could a head collar that will allow you greater control of his or her snozz. However these need to be something your dog is comfortable wearing. If using a head collar, I always recommend pairing with back attach harness. There are reports 1080 bait may have been used. This is incredibly scary, as once a dog shows signs, chances of recovery is very poor. 1080 is generally colourless. Other baits commonly used are coloured and may be rodent or slug poisons. Either way. If your dog shows any signs of illness, or snacks on something while on a walk, don’t wait. Please take to vet immediately. If you find a bait. Use caution when handling. Pick up with a poo bag or glove to avoid accidentally contaminating yourself. Report any suspicious activities to police.
