24.01.2022 What's that? Christmas is just around the corner? So is the Southern Art + Craft Trail Exhibition! What a great opportunity to find some locally made and unique gifts! Journals, books, cards, tea towels, totes, framed and mounted prints....just some of the items you will see from Merry Robertson at the Southern Art + Craft Trail Exhibition. "Originally trained as a Graphic Designer, I now produce works in drawing, mixed media, linocut, etching and collagraph from my home stud...io in Albany WA. I run my own art classes, and also teach for Vancouver Arts Centre and Albany Summer School. I have illustrated and produced various art books, and enjoy the creativity of producing handmade books too. Currently I am creating art works that focuses on endangered flora and fauna of south west W.A." While advertising on the map is fully subscribed, you can get a listing on the map as long as you have artwork on display for visitors all year round. You do not need to be an ArtSouthWA member but you do need to be in the greater southern region of WA. For all details and submissions contact Wayne Harrington on 0409 881 790 by Wednesday 30 September 2020. 15,000 Maps will be distributed in November 2020 in time for a record tourist season.

16.01.2022 Barbara Cronin, Porcelain artist and Southern Art + Craft Trail Exhibitor, lives in Albany nowadays but for many years lived near the Fitzgerald River National Park, a place of beautiful flora and fauna, great material for inspiration to paint on porcelain. When the chance came to take up porcelain painting in 1991 her love of nature inspired her work tremendously. Barbara has been a member of the Australasian Porcelain Artists Teachers Assoc. since 2004 and the W.A. Porcelai...n Artists Assoc. She has travelled to Europe and the UK to attend workshops and exhibit her work. Highlights were in 2002 where Barb exhibited her work at the SPK-APP Exhibition, Berne, Switzerland, then in 2012 exhibited at the TIPA Exhibition, Bangkok, Thailand. Barb finds that travelling and meeting up with other artists is enjoyable and inspirational, resulting in lifetime friendships that she values immensely. Barbara uses onglaze paints, lustres, precious metals and textures to experiment with and enhance her paintings. The paint is put on in thin layers, firing each time in the kiln until the required depth of colour is achieved. Temperatures range between 700-850oC. 15.01.2022 Gallery in Spotlight ArtSouthWA member, Riverfront Gallery, is a unique, rustic gallery in the heart of Denmark, overlooking the Denmark River. Established in Nov 2011 by Alison Clarke who wanted to provide a space that would enable local artists to find a home for their works, together with an opportunity to participate in the day to day operations. The gallery space was extended in 2016 providing extra space to invite prize winning guest artists from within WA to exhibit th...eir works, thus increasing the variety of artworks. In 2018, the gallery was selected by ArtsouthWA to be the venue for the official opening and launch of the Southern Art and Craft Trail. Over the years the gallery has grown to be extremely popular and well accepted by locals and tourists alike. The gallery currently exhibits artworks by more than 40 artists. A point of difference to many other galleries is that Riverfront Gallery is always manned by one of their friendly, core artists and is open daily. Paintings range from original large acrylic and oil paintings on canvas, pastel paintings, watercolours, mixed media, textile paintings and various prints. Also featured are exquisite and delightful handmade giftware created by their many talented artists e.g. glass art; rope re-cycled baskets and bowls; assorted jewellery; wool/silk wraps and scarves; colourful resin homewares; pottery; Australiana metal pieces; and wrought iron/timber pieces. "We are classically trained painters who have studied in academies in Florence, Italy. 12.01.2022 ArtSouthWA members Miranda Free, Marion Duke and Leanne White have not let this year's uncertainty get in the way of making big plans. Quick off the news advising the cancellation of the Southern Art + Craft Trail, Miranda floated the idea of hosting their own Nannup based event in its place. With a lot of organisation and hard work, Miranda, together with Marion's graphic design input and Leanne's networking and social media skills, pulled together to create Nannup's own Ar...t Trail. As well as Miranda and Marion (exhibiting as M+M Collective) and Leanne opening their venues to the public, other ArtSouthWA members involved in the Nannup event are Tromp Studios, Anki Wickison, Nannup Supper Gallery and Holberry House. Applying various textures and techniques enables me to be more spontaneous. It depends on my mood as to what subject and medium I use. Having travelled around Australia and New Zealand has given me lots of inspiration for an endless supply of subject matter. I still love to paint coastal areas and in particular Rott...nest Island and this amazing South Coast area. Other favourites are the Kimberley and Pilbara and in particular Karijini National Park with all its spectacular and colourful gorges." 01.01.2022 Marion Duke and Miranda Free became the M&M Collective when they started painting together weekly at Marion’s business, Forest Hemp, in Nannup. Marion has a special interest in book design and illustration and similarly to fairytales and myths, her work uses metaphors to communicate larger universal truths. The theme ‘Love is all there is’ underpins several of the exhibited works. Miranda is interested in ideas around domesticity and the perception of women in this sphere.
