21.01.2022 We couldn't be prouder of our Class of 2020 as we celebrated and farewelled them today. In what has been a challenging year, they have demonstrated resilience, remained dedicated to their studies, and cared for and uplifted one another. From working through remote learning and completing their assessments with maturity and confidence, to mentoring fellow students, we have watched our Year 12s complete their final year of schooling with pride. We wish them success with their upcoming exams and as they enter the next stage of their life beyond SCG's gates, and look forward to welcoming them back on campus as Alumni in the near future. 18.01.2022 At SCG, we understand the importance and benefits keeping connected has on our communitys wellbeing, especially during remote learning. Last week Our Principal-Elect, Mr Matthew Dodd, and the Head of Middle School, Mr David Wildsmith, visited some Middle School families to connect with them in person and learn about their remote learning experiences so far. The visits gave Mr Dodd and Mr Wildsmith opportunities to learn about how students have adapted to remote learning and discuss their excitement about returning to on-site learning next week.

14.01.2022 In the early days and weeks leading into lockdown, many Victorians gravitated towards buying gardening equipment, plants, seeds and even chickens amidst the uncertainties of the current climate. While peoples reasons for purchasing gardening items varied, many have come to find that gardening has brought a sense of comfort, peace and hope for the future during this time. Rebecca Mead, a contributor at The New Yorker, recently published a piece on the therapeutic power of gardening and its positive benefits on mental health: https://www.newyorker.com//the-therapeutic-power-of-garden If you feel inspired, we invite you to take some time during your day and have some moments of peace and hope in your garden by taking part in our schools Hope Project. Information about the project is on our Community Page on Schoolbox.
13.01.2022 After learning about poetry as part of our Year 4 curriculum, Aarin from 4SC wrote a poem to our Prime Minister, Mr Scott Morrison (ScoMo), and sent him photographs of the play dough artworks he sculpted during remote learning. Last week he received a signed letter from Mr Morrison thanking him for his poem and creativity. The Indian Sun has also published an article about Aarins achievement. Brilliant work, Aarin.
13.01.2022 As part of our commitment to our Foundation students feeling confident and cared for in our campus, they enjoyed an impromptu visit to Mr Dodd's office. Students were quick to ask questions and in turn, Mr Dodd was delighted to share his love of Science and Art with them. Students were keen to borrow his kaleidoscope which now holds prided place in their classroom. We are so fortunate to be part of a community that is designed to encourage this type of connection across all levels in our school.
13.01.2022 We have been busy making changes to our School as we prepare to welcome all our students back to on-site learning. 11.01.2022 We are delighted to share a final message from our Founding Principal, Mr Andrew Ponsford. From its inception, Southern Cross Grammar has provided an example of what it means to be successful in an ever changing future environment. We are a future focused school. Mr Ponsfords farewell presented unique challenges in this time of remote isolation. However, as we always do at Southern Cross Grammar, we found a way to connect people using new and exciting technologies. So in ma...ny ways, Mr Ponsfords farewell today is a fitting testament to the resilient, modern and exciting school that he leaves behind for us to enjoy. We have organised a time during our presentation evenings at the end of the year for Mr Ponsford to return with the hope that people can pass on their gratitude for his contribution directly. Until that time, we know that youll enjoy his message and looking back on what has been a remarkable story to date, and a significant moment in our schools proud history. Enjoy. https://schoolbox.scg.vic.edu.au/homepage/3110/

06.01.2022 Our Foundation students, the Class of 2032, are about to reach a significant milestone of their first 100 days of schooling. At SCG we traditionally mark the occasion as it represents a period of growth not only to our students but to their parents and the broader SCG community. While we are working hard to provide security and safety for our most vulnerable, we are also using this time to celebrate our youngest students achievements and partake in their joy as part of our commitment to ensure that all our students have time to mark their achievements. If you want to share messages of encouragement for our Foundation students, we encourage you to add them in the comments below.
06.01.2022 Our Foundation students, the Class of 2032, marked a significant milestone today with their 100 Days of Schooling. We celebrated the milestone with a special virtual morning assembly for the students, surrounded by their peers, families and staff. The first 100 days of school for our 2020 Foundation students and their families has taken place under the most challenging and unexpected circumstances. This year, especially, we celebrate the hard work, and skill and commitment re...quired to start school so productively and joyfully. Our youngest students have adapted to the new ways of learning with enthusiasm and resilience. Todays celebrations of learning provided the perfect opportunity to also highlight the support and encouragement of our families and staff. With our youngest students achieving such a milestone in our current climate, we are more confident that they will be future ready, both for their studies at Southern Cross Grammar, their bright pathways, and the challenges that lay ahead. For more photographs from todays celebrations, please login to Schoolbox or click the link: https://bit.ly/SCGCommunityPage

02.01.2022 Today is the International Day of Engineering for Women and Girls. Do you know that without female inventors, we would not have windshield wipers and wireless transmission technology, to name a few? As we reflect on the brilliant female engineers and inventors who have shaped our world for the better, we understand that we have far to go in closing the gender gap in STEM fields. Our STEM program at Southern Cross Grammar highlights our commitment to fostering environments t...hat inspire and enrich girls interest in STEM, and equips them with skills to pursue the many career pathways in the field. Our female students have integral roles in STEM across the school: - They are members of the Robotics Club and take part in STEM electives across our Middle and Senior schools. - They compete in competitions such as Robo Cup Jnr, the Aurecon Bridge Building Competition and the Spaghetti Machine Engineering Competition at the University of Melbourne. Families have an important role in supporting our schools commitment to STEM. Here are some helpful ways to champion your daughters passion for STEM at home: https://www.todaysparent.com/family/why-girls-need-stem/ #INWED20
02.01.2022 Today on World Teachers' Day, we recognise the important role our teachers have in inspiring and guiding students through their academic journey. This year especially, our teachers' passion, adaptability, dedication and care for their students during challenging times has been a testament to the pride they hold in their position as educators. The significant role parents have had this year in assisting teachers means a mutual respect and understanding has never been more prominent between the school and home. To our outstanding staff at SCG we thank you for all you do, everyday, both inside and outside the classroom.
