24.01.2022 We are thrilled to introduce Opera Queensland's Young Artist and rising starlet, Rebecca Cassidy in our first LIVE concert since February, 2020. SXS can't wait return to the glorious Concert Hall stage at the Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) on October 18th, 2020. Hailing from Townsville, Rebecca completed her Bachelor of Music at the Queensland Conservatorium under the tutelage of founding SXS member, Margaret Schindler. She has since been the recipient of many prest...igious awards including QCGU's Wagner Prize, Trinity College London Exhibition Award and the Alton Budd Memorial Scholarship. Her operatic performances include the title role in Puccini's Suor Angelica, Anne Trulove from Stravinsky's The Rake's Progress, and Rosalinde in Die Fledermaus by Johann Strauss Jnr. Rebecca will be joining SXS to perform various songs by Richard Strauss.

22.01.2022 While we’re sad to not have SXS’ Blair Harris joining us from locked-down Melbourne, we are happy to announce that 2019 SXS Next Gen Artist Daniel Chiou (cello) will join us for ‘SXS Returns’. Having received his Associate Diploma (AMusA) at the age of 15, Daniel Chiou has since remained an avid solo, chamber and orchestral musician. Daniel has recently completed a Bachelor of Music (Honours) at the University of Queensland and is now continuing his studies with Howard... Penny at the Australian National Academy of Music. He has appeared in concert at the Queensland Music Festival, Bangalow Music Festival and most recently performed for the Melbourne Digital Concert Hall in a concert featuring Strauss and Brahms. Daniel also took part in an orchestral exchange with the Xi'an Symphony Orchestra under Dane Lam in 2017 and 2019. Daniel has had the joy of being a prize winner of several competitions during his undergraduate studies, including the Richard Pollett Memorial Strings Prize (2018 and 2019), Sleath String Performance Prize (2019) and the 4MBS Musica Viva Chamber Music Prize (2018). Daniel is active as a chamber musician; most recently with the Islay Trio, he took part in the Southern Cross Soloists' Next Gen program and gave performance at the Bangalow Music Festival, the Next Gen at Kenmore concert series and were finalists of the inaugural Queensland Chamber Music Competition. Daniel is very excited to join Southern Cross Soloists at their return to the QPAC stage.
