05.01.2022 YES! According to Dr Sam, dogs can and should occasionally eat human food. Did you have a get together this weekend and are too full to eat the perfectly good leftovers? We have been evolving together with dogs for over 40,000 years (!!!) and as such, dogs can gain nutrients from a variety of sources that humans provide. Providing that you feed a good balanced pet food or planned home cooked diet, the occasional meal of 'human' food can be a great source of nutrition, energy,... vitamins and TASTE! So don't shy away from presenting the leftover coleslaw, potatoe salad, chicken meat and rolls to your pets bowls instead of sending this valuable food to landfill or the compost as waste. **Haters will hate this post, so to avoid this as much as possible, in adding the following disclaimer: Bones can cause gastro issues and perforation, so make sure you fully debone meats before offering to your pets Excess fat can cause pancreatitis, so remove as much fat as possible Some foods have nasties like garlic and onion, so avoid feeding those leftovers.. If your pet is on a special diet for skin, gut, kidney, or other reasons, make sure you consult your vet before following Dr Sam's opinion on the benefit of feeding occasional leftovers**
