23.01.2022 Who wants to join playing the name game with us...?

20.01.2022 We don’t want any more lives lost in the and don’t want to see anyone NOT leave their at-risk as they have pets they can’t possibly abandon to burn. We’ve g...ot a big announcement, as we stand with all our community affected by the that should not be happening. We’ve been providing FREE veterinary attention and rehab to companion animals who have suffered burns, anxiety related conditions or anything else caused by the bushfires. So many animals in the fire zones also are not microchipped - so we are inviting the community in the fire affected regions of our state to come in for free microchipping so that if the worst happens and they are separated, once the disaster is finally over, this technology will help families to be reunited with their lost pet. We realise that this is a difficult ask for people on the South Coast, Mountains and beyond to visit the City, so when the devastation is over, we will organise a drive down to the communities who have suffered and will microchip as many pets there as we can. We’d like to remind everyone that our three air-conditioned, purified locations have been made ‘safe spaces’ for any of the pets of those who have had to flee their homes. We are prepared to house pets owned by fire affected families in our corridors, offices, operating rooms and radiology spaces. St Peters Bellevue Hill Surry Hills/Redfern Our Surry Hills/Redfern premises on Cleveland St have a modest, but comfortable + safe residence occupying the entire first floor of the hospital. There is a kitchen, bathroom, shower facilities and laundry. We are opening this up and are inviting families and individuals affected by the devastation with no where else to escape to, to apply to live there, in safety with their pets, until it is safe to return to their homes or local community. It’s the least we can do for our community that is in crisis at the moment. We’re humbled by all the pilots of the new water bombing , reservists of the @AustralianDefenceForce being called to help evacuate and all the community groups coming together. Email our CEO directly - [email protected] if you know of anyone who would require urgent crisis accomodation for their family and pets at the clinic. To register for microchipping and veterinary assistance once it is safe for us to prepare a day trip to the affected areas email [email protected] While we have not had time to update very regularly, you can read more about our chairty that looks after the pets of the homeless also at this time Project HoPe,

20.01.2022 Listen up dog lovers & puppy owners! Have you heard of Southern Cross Vets weekly PUPPY PARTY? Its as cool as it sounds and is a great way to socialise yo...ur pup with different dog breeds, sizes, smells and people. We start the party by playing everyones favourite, Pass the Puppy where we pass everyones puppies around in a circle to get them used to being held by strangers (and so you can cuddle all the other puppies). If its your first time owning a dog or its been some time since your last one then you might have a few questions you wanted answered. The nurses are more than happy to answer any questions you might have about: Training toilet training and play biting Worming and flea treatment Desexing when and why General Puppy Care how to do a health check Insurance why and what to look out for Its a very relaxed environment where you can have a glass of wine or beer and chat with the other owners in the class and swap quirky stories about your fluff ball. It also helps relax your puppy so they arent stressed every time they have to come to the vet. Its totally free and the drinks are on us, so what are you waiting for? Book just by DMing us your puppys name and mobile number and whether youll be partying in the City @ Surry Hills (Tuesdays 6pm) or in the Inner West @ St Peters (Thursdays 7pm) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TaEBrkuybdw

19.01.2022 Today we received resumes from cabin crew who have lost their jobs and love animals and want to work with them. They are seeking jobs at all levels of our clini...c. This got us thinking that there are so many people in our country who have and will lose jobs due to the #coronavirus. We understand this will squeeze those families financially. Weve always been community-focused and as such we are offering to temporarily extend our seniors discount of 15% to ALL clients who have lost their job due to #COVID-19 @virginaustralia @qantascabincrew @qantas and @jetstaraustralia Also if you would like to consider a career with us, just email us your resume! 12.01.2022 Dr Sam here... if you're a client please take a moment to review our COVID policy to see how it will affect your next visit. We are committed to staying OPEN through the pandemic and by OPEN, I mean to physically share in the warmth and joy of a new puppy or kitten, to be able to shed a tear together during the last moments of your pets life and to be face to face when discussing a new treatment plan or to de brief on how the surgery went. For this to happen, all the SCV fa...mily must respect and abide by our new policies... its only 3 points and a 30 second read... https://southerncrossvet.com.au/covid19-

02.01.2022 Is Sydney toxic today? What can you do to protect your loved ones? We are suffering a perfect poisonous mixture of particulates and high heat with no wind to... away the poisonous gases. As such, all living things even are at risk of getting sick. Who are the highest risk pets that we are urging particular care with today? 1) Seniors - dogs over 7 years and cats over 10 years 2) Those on meds like #cardisure or #vetmedin 3) Squishy faced breeds If you have a pet in the above list, we dont recommend a face mask like in the photos here but we DO recommend you: Keep them indoors with the a/c on at 24C or less. If you cant, please drop them to our clinic and we will keep them safe here free of charge! Provide a bowl of frozen or other vegetables soaking in water to assist in cooling down Absolutely no exercise today until after 7pm Wash them thoroughly tomorrow to remove bushfire debris and toxic particulates Encourage higher water consumption by adding a couple of tablespoons of stock to their drinking water Be proactive and measure their breathing rate. It should be less than 40 per minute when resting. If higher than this, call us! ALSO spare a thought for our native and if you are out and about, take a couple of bottles of water to wet the soil growing life-giving for our wildlife. If you share your life with a squishy-faced breed like a #pug #frenchbulldog or #bostonterrier and they havent had the BAS surgery to improve breathing, now is the time to get serious about doing the right thing! Weve got plenty of resources on our site for you guys, but the best personalised advice can be had if you book in for a free breathing assessment with one of our Drs. Dr Sam and Dr Ben are the only vets performing this advanced procedure at our currently...
