24.01.2022 Yesterday I was honoured to speak with an awesome gathering of men at the Busso Man Walk. These guys walk together on a weekly basis down Busselton jetty.. Such great medicine. To understand Southern Fire, I strongly feel you have to understand the story behind the foundation of this service. SFW was created through trauma, breakdowns, tears, heart ache, guilt, shame and many other experiences - but most importantly....... Love & healing. 16.01.2022 So I once was a soldier. This is what I walked away with. Paperwork. Trauma. Pain. Fog. The system they had (have) for mental health does not work for me. And others. Sit in this shit little box of a room and tell me what’s wrong with you. ... No. This isnt working. See ya. I was fortunate to have a partner to show me the way. My body would be in the Earth if she was not there - To lead me by the hand, Through years of breakdowns and hell on earth. Together - we healed. Our own way. Now I find myself in a position where I have to dig it all up and go to DVA (Dep of Veterans Affairs) to prove and claim my rightful entitlement. Thank god I am in a position of strength coz even now, it’s fucking hard. There are many ex military members out there who are not in a position of strength. Help me find them. I’m hitting up the DVA for grants. Funding to set up events and walks for those that don’t want to sit in a shitty little room and be analysed. These guys should not have to pay a cent. Walking in a place of absolute peace, rawness and beauty is one of the ways I healed and also how I maintain my mental well-being. It is my calling to help these ex serving members, to help them find their strength. There’s a way out.
