23.01.2022 This year the long table lunch as part of the Manjimup Cherry Harmony Festival won’t be happening in its usual way. This year, it is called ‘Cherry & White’ an... evening in the orchard. It will be held in the same beautiful location, Newton Orchards and have wonderful live music and a magical atmosphere. So the main differences; 1. The ticket to attend costs $45 and for this price you can BYO your own table, chair, linen, food, drinks etc. Strictly NO PICNIC RUGS. 2. If you want a hassle free experience, you can purchase a seat at a set table. 3. You can purchase the most delicious Southern Forests Gourmet Hamper if you don’t want to BYO. We are going to the farm gate and including the freshest of seasonal goodies, all prepared here with local ingredients. Not to be missed. If you don’t want one each - get one to share between a couple of you or a table (but I know what’s going in it and I’m not sharing ) 3. BYO your drinks - that’s right, grab a white esky (foam boxes from the chemist are FREE!!) and bring your favs. 4. ALL WHITE - this a bit of fun that the Cherry Festival team were keen to try! Dress white from head to toe. Start stalking the shops and op shops, buy some cheapie white shoes if you don’t own any. Wear a wedding dress !! Most of all have fun. White is the colour required for your dress code and table ware etc. Again, we can provide you seats at a table and take this worry away but you must wear white. It’s going to be a stunning evening and tickets are limited to 200! Get in quick or miss out. Grab your tickets now at www.cherryfestival.com.au Any questions about this event, please contact Event Coordinator Kim Starkie on 4028 227 522 or the Cherry Festival team. See more

06.01.2022 Mrs Maureen Barton is a local legend. She still manages to hand pull weeds on her 10 acres (~5 hectares) where the Warren river passes by. If you are not impre...ssed (and though a lady never tells her age), Mrs Barton is on the plus side of 80! A meticulous record keeper, she can also tell us exactly how many, and of which species she has removed from her land since moving in. For example, in 1986 she removed 9,250 saffron thistles, and by 1997 had reduced them to just 114 a total of 25,233 all by hand! How does she do it? At first, Mrs Barton would kneel on the ground, and day by day work her way through the paddock. Now she uses her trusty weed gadget to pluck out any new weeds which pop up after a vehicle has been in the paddock, or is dropped by animals. Still not impressed? Already well known for her work with the Manjimup branch of CWA, she has written a book about her friends, and what they have achieved since 1937. Here is a plug for that book! Methinks I have no excuses for not weeding the roses. Mrs Barton - Legend! See more
