20.01.2022 Southern Geoscience Consultants are assisting Orion Minerals Limited (ASX/JSE: ORN) regional #geophysical programme efforts in the Areachap Belt, Northern Cape Province, South Africa. The SGC team, led by Senior Consultant Geophysicist Russell Mortimer have been supervising the extensive regional ground EM surveys, providing ongoing processing, interpretation, modelling/targeting vectors. The modelled Ayoba conductor has a strike length of ~1.1km and extends down-dip to at ...least ~800m below surface. The vertical depth to the top of the conductor is ~500m. Recently completed diamond drillhole OAXD002 intersected 10.55m of #sulphide #mineralisation, including 5.17m of massive sulphides (>70% sulphides) from a down-hole depth of 653.2m. 08.01.2022 SGC's Principal Geophysicist Karen Gilgallon will present on, Airborne EM for Integrated 3D Mapping of Groundwater, Seawater Intrusion and Relationship with Sustainable Yield in Exmouth, WA at the Australian Geoscience Council Convention 2018. Exmouth, Western Australia is a regional centre that relies entirely on groundwater for its water supply. The current borefield extraction has insufficient capacity to meet increased water demand due to population growth and the influ...x of tourists in holiday periods. In 2016-2017, the Water Corporation decided to investigate optimizing borefield performance through improved production from existing infrastructure. An Airborne Electromagnetic (AEM) survey, desktop review, 3D modelling, and pumping tests, helped define the extent/geometry of the saltwater interface and karstic features within the aquifer. Importantly, bores have been identified which could accommodate additional sustainable extraction. Other bores have been identified where extraction rates should not be increased, or should be reduced. Karen graduated from Curtin University of Technology BSc (Hons) in Geophysics, and has been interested in groundwater since completing her honours thesis on Geophysical Signature of the Lake Bryde Paleochannel. After graduating, Karen worked for the Waters and Rivers Commission (now the Department of Environment and Conservation) in the hydrogeology section to help explore for and monitor groundwater resources. Karen has worked with numerous geophysical methods exploring for various types of economic mineralisation, and groundwater. She has experience as a field-based supervisor for surveys in Australia, Africa and Papua New Guinea. As a Principal Geophysicist, she is responsible for the design, management, and interpretation of all types of geophysical surveys.
