11.01.2022 The Booningba (West Burleigh) Railway Station circa 1919. (Queensland Australia). it had been open since 1903 and by now there was a resident Station Master. Mo...st of the passengers from Brisbane would go on to Coolangatta / Tweed Heads. From these stations passengers could walk to a nearby hotel or to the beach. And thousands used the train for this. In the main picture you will notice Horse and Buggy sets. From the Booningba Station to Burleigh .Maybe also to the Tallebudgerra settlement further up the creek. It would take between half an hour and an hour on a dusty unsealed road for the Burleigh journey.. There was a big hill near West Burleigh and passengers probably had to get off the buggy (cart) as one horse could not pull a heavy load up such a steep incline. Passengers from Brisbane to Booningba / West Burleigh were increasing , as Burleigh developed into a seaside resort. Sometimes people would pay a local chap to row them from Booningba to the mouth of the Tallebudgera Creek where they would rent a hut and go fishing. The Oyster Bed Hotel was thriving. It had been there since the line was opened in 1903.There are only 2 other buildings in the 1919 photo. . The poster near the station building advertised Huttons Hams The Hotel would have accommodated travelers who were there for weekend fishing . Fresh Oysters would have been on the menu. There were commercial Oyster Beds in the Tallebudgerra Creek, sadly taken for the aboriginal inhabitants. Oysters were sent to Brisbane by train for the plush city hotels and cafes. The trains also carried dairy products from the Tallebudgerra Valley to Brisbane as well as fresh fruit and vegetables. The station and line remained the same until the south coast section was closed in 1961. Photos from the Gold Coast Libraries and supplied by Karen Wright. Story-line by Stephen Fleay. ...who lived near West Burleigh in the 1950's. The pnoto has been further colorised by Stephen Fleay. See more

08.01.2022 It was lovely to go to Brisbane this morning to meet with Mrs Badrak and her wonderful family again. It has been a pleasure dealing with Susie her daughter right through the selling journey for this lovely family. Mrs Badrak's late husband built 23 Regent St Currumbin back in 1991. They named the home "Bella Palms" and had the name proudly on the front fence. Some of the letters had fallen off but we managed to get the photo shopped to bring it back to new. A keep sake. What a great sale it was 900k! The market is super strong!Love what i do! https://www.southerngoldcoastrealty.com.au/market-appraisal
