17.01.2022 THERE'S STILL TIME TO HAVE YOUR SAY! HAMILTON BOTANIC GARDENS CHILDREN"S PLAY SPACE** If you and your family LOVE the Hamilton Botanic Gardens, then we want to hear from you! We've had some great feedback so far and there are some really wonderful ideas for how to improve this space.... We'd love to hear from all users of the Hamilton Botanic Gardens, especially those with young families, to provide input as we design this new children’s nature-based play space at the Hamilton Botanic Gardens. The removal of the old animal enclosure and small aviaries, together with the reduction in the size of the depot area, has provided the opportunity to create a new play space and garden along the Martin Street side of the gardens. The new space will revitalise this under-utilised area and provide new recreational and gathering opportunities for children and their families. It is envisaged that this space may include a new entrance, nature-based, non-equipment play options and an all-abilities sensory garden and picnic area. It will be a space that provides exciting and interactive opportunities for children of all ages and ability levels. We want to know how your kids love to play, what would engage them and what is most important to you as a family when it comes to gathering spaces. Help us design this very important project for the Hamilton Botanic Gardens! The survey is available here https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QN3TVSF

09.01.2022 16 Days of Activism The #16daysofactivism campaign aims to support our community in understanding what respect means, what it looks like, and how to put it into practice in their everyday lives. When gender equality exists, we all benefit.... We all have a role to play in creating Gender Equality through calling out sexist and disrespectful behaviours: Here are a few everyday that should be ‘called out’: Using ‘like a girl’ as an insult: Stop whingeing, you sound like a girl! Sexist jokes at the pub: I’d give her an 8 out of 10! The stereotype that men and boys don’t cry Sitting back while female colleagues clean the work kitchen or get the coffees Stereotypes about skills: I need a bloke’s brain for this Belittling women: Given what your husband does, do you really need to work? Comments made about a person’s suitability for a role based on their gender: I think it’s weird for a guy to be a child care worker Fathers being congratulated for doing basic parenting tasks: Great job babysitting the kids! Comments about women being too emotional Respect Victoria
