20.01.2022 Since 2013, the Regional Wellbeing team at the University of Canberra has been asking people across Australia, in remote, rural and urban regions, about the liveability of their community, their wellbeing, and their ability to cope with challenging times. The program produces reports which show survey results across Australia as well as for specific groups such as farmers. Many organisations use the data to track quality of life in their region and to advocate for better serv...ices and resources for the communities they serve. The end goal is to improve the quality of life across regional Australia. In previous surveys, remote communities were severely under-represented, and we’d like to change that. Please take five minutes to share your perspective now. Visit https://bit.ly/regionalwellbeingNRM for more information and complete the survey before 31 October. 13.01.2022 Under the Queensland Government’s Natural Resources Investment Program (NRIP). Southern Gulf NRM is supporting 12 Graziers to improve Natural Resource Management practices across 100,000 hectares across the Southern Gulf region. One grazier is Colin Burnett from Lara Downs Station, north of Julia Creek. Colin signed up to the project in 2019. He had the following to say about the project. "The NRIP program has fitted in with our Natural Resource Management Plan for Lara D...owns in 2 Key Areas. We are big on utilising our pasture to have flexibility with our financial decisions year in year out. Funding through this program has allowed us to better utilise grass in the Lilyponds area on the northern side of our property to allow for resting and utilising areas in a better way. Also we have cattle now watering out of the Flinders River system which has helped with our erosion control program. Especially after the 2019 floods, our erosion control as come to the forefront of our management plan here at Lara. NIRP funding has been instrumental to beginning to repair the land."
