24.01.2022 Zwift Race Results, Kettle & Boil: A small crew out tonight. Dave Nelson did his best Caleb impression, edging Matt Hargreaves out for line honours.
20.01.2022 Important advice regarding auto-renewal of your CA licence. As part of the licensing changes last year, Cycling Australia included AND DEFAULTED TO, ‘auto-renew’ of your licence. As many people will be coming up to the renewal date for their licence, the club feel it is appropriate to warn you that unless you specifically switched this option off, your licence will automatically renew for another 12 months at expiry date. Note that even if you specified ‘monthly payment’ th...is is still a 12 month commitment, just paid via 12 monthly payments. Also note that if your licence renews you will have 48 hours to cancel without penalty. Beyond 48 hours you will incur a 10% admin fee and after 14 days you will lose all rights to cancel. Given that there is currently no racing in Metro Melbourne and that Cycling Australia has been clear that it will not be issuing any refunds or compensation, you may wish to review both the auto-renew setting on your membership and, potentially, whether you wish to purchase a new licence at this point, particularly in light of the uncertainty as a result of the impending transition to Auscycling. In respect of the transition to Auscycling, our advice is to hold off making a new 12 month licence commitment until further details are released by Auscycling. Once more information is available, the club will review that and provide an update and recommendation to members. If you choose not to renew your licence, you will be able to take out a new licence whenever you wish to do so, potentially aligning with the restart of racing. Should you choose not to take out a new licence, please be aware that you will also lose any other benefits of the licence, such as insurance. If you do require insurance, an option is to take out a different licence type at a significantly reduced cost. However, if you do this, please ensure the licence type you take out meets your needs. See https://cycling.org.au/membership/join-now for details of the features of each licence type. Should you wish to review and potentially change your licence, please follow the instructions below: Go to https://cycling.tidyhq.com/member/memberships and login when prompted. This will show all your memberships, including any expired ones. To change your auto-renew option: Scroll down to the membership that is currently active and look for an ‘auto-renew’ date. If there is an auto-renew date shown and you do not wish for your licence to auto-renew, click on ‘More Details’ which is just below the listing. In the next screen, you should see ‘Cancel Auto-renew’. Click on that button and the renewal will be cancelled. To change your licence type: Click on the ‘New Membership’ button On the next screen, select the membership you require Note: whilst the ‘monthly instalments’ licence options show a duration of 1 month, be aware that this is a commitment for a full 12 months, just payable monthly.
18.01.2022 SMCC Return to Racing - Casey Fields Crit, 9:00am, Sunday 29th November. We're finally back racing on Sunday at Casey Fields. We have decided to make this event, and the next Casey Fields race, free entry (although there won't be any prize money either). This will minimise contact and is also a small gesture as recompense for the licence that we've all paid for but haven't been able to use for most of the year. Entries will be on-the-day but PLEASE make sure you check that yo...ur race licence is still current and that you bring it with you. If you have any mates that would like to race but haven't had a licence before (or at least not in the last 3 years), they can get a 4 week free trial licence by signing up here: https://www.auscycling.org.au/membership/other/free-trial Lastly, we will not be able to provide our usual drinks esky (to minimise contact) so please bring your own drinks as required.
13.01.2022 Daylight Saving and tomorrow's Zwift TBR Combine. The expectation is that the TBR Combine will start at 9:00am as normal. The Companion app and the Zwift Events webpage are showing 9:00am, however, at the moment Zwiftpower is advertising tomorrow's race as 8:00am. The expectation is that Zwiftpower will update to 9:00am overnight as the clocks change. Just a heads up in case you're looking at Zwiftpower. Thursday's Kettle & Boil unexpectedly moved forward an hour so we'll see what happens.
13.01.2022 Club Racing Restarting! We have just received confirmation from the relevant authorities that club racing is able to restart. Our plan is to commence this Sunday morning (29-Nov) with a criterium at Casey Fields, to be followed by a return to Sandown on Thursday night (3-Dec). More details to follow....
12.01.2022 Zwift Race Results, Kettle & Boil: About 120 headed back to the Champs Elysees tonight. The first 4 laps gradually worked up to race pace and the final lap saw the lead group reduced to about 20 by the time they made it to the top of the drag up to the Arc de Triomphe. Matt Hargreaves and Dave Nelson were up there, keeping tabs on each other and stuck together right through to the finish, Dave shading Matt by a mere 0.2s. Martyn Hughes just dropped off the pace at the end to come in 10s later with Barry Brown and John Chipp coming across the line together a further 20s back with Ian Neal bringing us home. Well done all.
12.01.2022 Zwift Race Results, TBR GO BDCC SMCC Combine: Some decent handicapping today (for all but D grade) saw a bunch of 30 riders across 3 grades contest the final sprint, including a number of SMCC riders. Paul Speed took the honours from an ever-improving Barry Brown, with Ross Taylor and David Gallagher right on his tail. Good rides by everybody today. There are going to be some strong riders out there on the road once the shackles come off!
11.01.2022 Update on Col Smith. While out training last Sunday, Col was hit by a car, within 30 mts from his home. He is recovering at the Alfred, started physio and making steady progress. Col sustained some neck fractures and the usual road rash and bruises. Lucky he did not become an angel but is now sporting a halo. Col, everyone who knows you wishes you all the best and a speedy recovery. Definitely a TOB.
11.01.2022 We're hoping for some good news tomorrow to pave the way towards a return to club racing. The club has been busy preparing a 'return to racing' plan so that we'll be ready to go as soon as possible after we're given the go ahead. Things will be a little different with online entries only, no cash on the day and numbers being issued to each person for the season rather than each race. So, tune in to tomorrow's Govt announcements. ... If all goes well, we should be able to provide some certainty soon regarding dates for a return to racing! See more
09.01.2022 Thanks to Tony Gill and Stuey Campbell for performing a deep clean of the office, toilet and the external verandahs of the building. Fabulous job making sure the club complies with the regulations and creating a safe environment for all riders,
08.01.2022 Zwift Race Results: TBR GO SMCC Combine A Grade were on a mission this morning, relentlessly working their way through the field. A few of the B’s and C’s managed to jump onto them for a while, splitting their respective grades and stringing the riders across the course. The A’s continued on their way, swamping D grade around the 30km mark. The only non A graders able to stay with them at this point were a couple of random 50kg riders pushing out almost 5w/kg - but that’s ano...ther story. Mick Day was right up there, just getting gapped near the end to finish 20 seconds or so behind the winner with and Vaughan Bowman close behind. B grade was well and truly split, Jim Timmer-Arends our best finishing a little over 3 minutes behind the winner and Ross Taylor a further 30s back. Ken Murphy took a solid win in C grade, nearly two minutes ahead of his nearest rival, as did Maurice Bando in D grade. Some solid rides there today and a dominant display by A grade, which may even pique the interest of the handicapper for next week. Well done all!
08.01.2022 Zwift Race Results: TBR Kettle & Boil Everybody kept pretty well together for the first 4 laps leading onto the last race lap. The long drag up to the Arc de Triomphe split the field with Matt Hargreaves, Pete Grogan and Dave Nelson making the lead group and opening a gap on the field. The gap gradually grew and the lead group of 14 came to the line for a bunch sprint, Matt showing some fine form to take the honours. The chase group came home about 40secs later with Joe just edging out Martyn Hughes and Barry Brown in another bunch sprint.
02.01.2022 Zwift Race Results, TBR GO BDCC SMCC Combine: Lots of people no doubt sleeping in this morning after a fantastic stage and a major shake up at the TDF. Back at the Seaside Sprint, Matthew Hamilton took a resounding victory from D grade, finishing over 6 minutes ahead of any other SMCCer. A couple of great rides from B grade with Barry Brown just edging David Gallagher on the line by 0.2sec. A couple of minutes further back there was a similar close finish between Ross Taylor and Chippy. Great work from everybody getting up after what was quite possibly a late night!
