21.01.2022 HI Below letter from a nervous group of KI citizens and landholders trying to stop the SA State Govt acquiring a wild slice of Kangaroo Island Coastline. NEXT MONDAY JAN 15 Comment closes. The dangerous part of this idea is that its been decided without local or even Env Dept input that the land has no heritage or conservation value - in spite of what lives there and it being a vital land corridor to the main part of the island. See Janine's letter below, it was sent to ...all Friends of Parks members. links at bottom. Dear Friends, The South Australian Government would like to know whether we mind if they sell (or give away) 2.5 kilometres of Kangaroo Island's stunning southern coastline. Minister Rau has already recklessly approved a neighbouring developer's request to move their golf fairways and clubhouse from degraded farmland onto these limestone cliffs so they can 'play to the edge' with NO transparency, NO environmental assessment and NO approval to sell this Crown Land (our land!) in a Coastal Conservation Zone. This would set a very dangerous precedent. The cliffs are cloaked with the most beautiful native vegetation and scattered with ancient aboriginal stone tools; it's home to White-bellied Sea-eagles, Southern Brown Bandicoots, Little Penguins, Osprey and myriad other species. It is the only corridor linking the eastern peninsula to the main island. They can only sell the Crown Land if it’s deemed 'surplus', meaning it has 'no significant conservation or heritage values'. Please write to them and spread the word, we need an avalanche! Please note: letters posted on the yourSAy website demonstrate the views of the public, whereas letters and emails to Minister Hunter via Damian Miley (DEWNR) will not be made public, we will not even be told how many they receive. We only have until Monday 15 January to comment. https://yoursay.sa.gov.au//consideration-of-waterfront-cro I have attached my submission, which has much more detail. 07.01.2022 This rare aerial footage shows fish (mullet) being encircled in a mud ring created by a dolphin. This feeding technique is called mud ring feeding and it has pr...eviously only been documented near the keys 16 years ago. The behavior is thought to be a cooperative feeding behavior, however we have witnessed this technique being successfully used by lone dolphin. When there is more than one dolphin, the others wait outside the ring to catch the fish that jump over it to escape. Although this behavior has been documented near Key West in 2001, none of the video they captured during their research shows the fish actually being encircled in the mud ring from an aerial perspective. After he makes the mud ring and goes into it, he also clearly tries to toss one of the fish with his tail. This is usually a seperate feeding technique. #awesome #rare #dolphin #amazing #nature National Geographic Ocean Animal Planet #stpete #florida #dolphins #liveamplified #lovefl #ocean #explore #kayaking #canoeing #boating #glassbottomkayak #glassbottomboat #aerialphotography #videooftheday #dji Saint Petersburg, Florida #islandlife Florida #ocean See more
