25.01.2022 Portland for a few days. Waiting out weather system. Maybe cast the lines Sunday. Portland for a few days. Waiting out weather system. Maybe cast the lines Sunday.

25.01.2022 My quote when giving advice about this yacht verse another. It’s the skipper who navigates through the weather and the worlds Oceans. Not the yacht.

25.01.2022 Winches! The consequence of not servicing winches can be so dangerous. Winches back winding can take an arm off let alone loose control of your sails. These winches haven’t been serviced for many, many years. They cost such a lot of money to replace! Service your winches every year!! Luckily I was able to survive without too much injury.

24.01.2022 The storm rages. Waves smashing over the Augusta Marina wall. We are safe. Lots of lines. The storm rages. Waves smashing over the Augusta Marina wall. We are safe. Lots of lines.

24.01.2022 Departed Adelaide for Port Lincoln. ETA Monday evening. Shelter there until these nasty storms go through. Then depart for Middle Island, Esperance and finally Albany. She is tiny but beautifully built.

22.01.2022 Arrived at 00.24 in Albany. Kettering to Albany on a little Mottle 33’. The weather threw everything at us. From Gales in Bass Straight to glass off’s on the Great Australian Bight. Some History. ... The Mottle 33 was born in 1975 when George Mottle, a successful Sydney yacht broker, and designer Joe Adams were having a drink in a pub in Western Sydney. George lent his name to the boat and built and marketed it up to 1978. He sold the boat mainly as a low-cost sailaway package without an interior, which was then finished in various ways by owners. In 1978 a company called Naut Yachts took over the boat and decided to sell it as a production yacht with options, rather than as George Mottle had done. The boat was also renamed Naut 33, but this never really caught on and even today Mottles are referred to as Mottle 33s built by Naut Yachts. If you thought about getting in to sailing the Mottle is one of the most sea worthy yachts I’ve ever sailed. Reckon I’m qualified to say that!

21.01.2022 A beautiful day.

12.01.2022 Stuck for Christmas gift ideas. What about a gift voucher for your loved one to get their skipper's ticket.

12.01.2022 Arrived Esperance yesterday afternoon sailing a Mottle 33 from Adelaide. Last year we sailed her from Kettering Tasmania to Adelaide with the delivery to Albany starting again a week or so ago. This morning I’ll throw off the lines and head to Albany. There she will stay for while until her owner sets off on her own voyage. Of all the yachts I’ve sailed over the years she was one of the finest. A remarkable yacht for her size.

11.01.2022 About to arrive Port Lincoln. Didn’t want to but need to make sure weather is good for next leg to Middle Island.

11.01.2022 On my final approach to Albany. Been a tough three weeks sailing from Fremantle to Albany then on to Adelaide on a 43 Hanse. Upon arriving Adelaide getting onboard a beautiful Mottle 33’ and sailing back to Albany. One thing about sailing on your own tho. You win every argument. If not you may have a serious problem.

03.01.2022 BREAKSEA ISLAND LIGHTHOUSE GETS MAJOR REVAMP The lighthouse, 12km off the coast of Albany, was built in 1901 and is undergoing a complete renovation. Materia...ls were brought over by helicopter, with a specialist team of workers living on the island for weeks at a time. Despite new technologies, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority says lighthouses are still a vital navigational aid for seafarers.

03.01.2022 Arrived Esperance with Anger Management. The single hand voyage from Hobart to Portland was breathtaking. 185nm a day was easy on such an amazing yacht. Jenny joined in Portland. Portland to Esperance in six and a half days. Thanks Jenny. You have become a very accomplished yachtswoman.
