20.01.2022 Coaching Announcement After a year as assistant coach to our Women's Premier Division team, Southern Power AFC are delighted to announce that Adam Parker will be stepping up to fill the head coach role for the 2021 season. Adam’s impact on the entire women's program was immediate, and he played a pivotal role in the Women's Premier Division team breaking a 4 year drought to go deep into finals in 2020.... He prides himself on a personalised approach to training, which has seen a dramatic lift in skill development and game sense across the entire women's squad. His many years of experience as a player, coach and committee member with Sydney AFL across both junior and senior levels will be invaluable as the three women's' teams aim for finals footy in their respective divisions, maybe even a premiership or three. The club congratulates Adam on his appointment, and wishes him well for what should be a very promising year for our women's teams. Power in Unity

12.01.2022 The true greats of the game make everything they do seem effortless. They have hands softer than butter; opening up like butterfly wings to smoothly pluck a ball from the air. They make it seem like kicking a goal straight and true under pressure is something that comes without countless hours of practise and repetition. Today, we get to witness this when we see an elite legend of the game Laura Holdsworth run out for her 150th senior Sydney AFL game. What an astonishing achi...evement. If you dont know Holdsy, there is no doubt she will go down in the record books and be remembered as one of the games best. Born and bred in Victoria, AFL was always going to run through her veins. Her first team in Sydney was the Newtown Breakaways. Here, she picked up not one but TWO premierships before moving on to the Balmain Dockers. Under the eyes of Super Coach Tracey Kick , Holdsy was pivotal as a key small forward in the lineup and helped reel in ANOTHER TWO premierships. Come 2015 and Holdsy is back in the familiar red and white of Newtown, hoisting another cup in the air! Thats FIVE PREMIERSHIPS for those playing at home. Holdsys accomplishments arent just at the club level. She was included in the 2011 National Championship-winning NSW team in Adelaide. Two years later Holdsy played along two other Favourites in the very last National Championships held in Cairns. She has donned many a Sydney Representative, State and Academy guernseys over the years. Even looking good in orange when she garnered a spot in the AFLW GWS squad. Holdsy finally became a Favourite in 2019 and since then she has helped grow Southern Power Women into 3 teams, and has been a key influence and on-field voice in her two years of teal. With Powers best year to date, Holdsy is our Prems vice captain and is an essential mother hen to our youngsters. We hope today you run out with your head high and heart full, knowing how influential you have been to Sydney AFL. You have been an instrumental in the development of womens footy and we are so very grateful to have you at Power! Congratulations on an epic career and if you dont mind sticking around for another 150 that would be wonderful. Come watch Power take on Sydney Uni 5:50pm TONIGHT @ Sydney Uni Oval 1

09.01.2022 Women’s Division 2 Coaching Announcement The coaching announcements are coming thick and fast at Southern Power AFC, and the club is proud to announce that Pete Stevens and Kathryn Hull will be coach and assistant coach respectively for our Women's Division 2 team for the 2021 season. For those of you who have been involved in the Youth Girls program in the last few years, you will know Pete and what he brings to the coaching role. He delivers a personalised approach to ...the development of every women in the team, and has experienced multiple premiership successes in the Youth Girls program. With his daughter Mia now firmly established in the women's program, he makes the move to the Power senior club. What can we say about 'Huggies'? She has done it all in Sydney AFL - 2014 premiership player and best-on-ground recipient, multiple best and fairest awards over many years, multiple representative honours in AFLNSW, multiple Lorraine Cloney 'Power Woman of the Year' awards, Power Women's team 'Hall of Fame' member - we could go on all day. Her coaching prowess is second to none, having been a pioneer in the Youth Girls program that has lead to a period of sustained success, as well being a well respected coach in the Sydney Swans Youth Girls Academy. Women like Huggies don't come around very often, and the club is truly privileged to have her part of the Southern Power community. 04.01.2022 Time for some incredibly good news!!Southern Power has a player selected for the AFLW Draft Combine - Kiara Beesley. As a former Southern Power Youth Girl, Kiara is no stranger to Teal, and is currently in her 5th year with our club. Her dedication in training and time spent honing her craft has now been rewarded with a shot at playing AFLW. The Combine sees 82 of the countrys top draft prospects go up against strict judging criteria in the lead up to the NAB AFLW Draft ne...xt month. 01.01.2022 Vale Lorraine Cloney The Southern Power family is saddened by the loss of one of our best yesterday, our dear Lorraine Cloney. Lorraine passed peacefully and we offer our heartfelt condolences to her dedicated and beloved husband Brian and children Stuart, Elise and Glen.... Southern Power AFC simply would not be where it is today without the tireless commitment from this beautiful, kind and giving soul. Lorraines son Stuart played his junior footy with the Bangor Tigers JAFC, and when he joined Power (formally Sutherland Sharks) for his senior years way back in 1997 so did his parents - and we never let them go. Indeed, Stuarts retirement from football didnt see Lorraine and Brian involvement end - they became instant stalwarts at the club and are rusted on. Lorraine filled many a role during her 20+ years at Power. She was famed for being our canteen manager at the Bob and Nan Loveday Pavilion at Gwawley, quenching the thirst of the countless players leaving the field under their own steam, and ably handing out ice for the walking wounded - victims of the Gwawley potholes. Fitting, then, that we named the Club Woman of the Year award after Lorraine. It is given out annually to a deserving and dedicated woman, and now the award bears the name of the person that embodied the qualities most aspired to by the Power women. Even the club committee was a recipient of Lorraines reach (in a time, mind, where it was an all-male panel), lending a womans touch here and there to keep the club on the up. In 2016, Lorraine and Brian were awarded the BLK AFL Sydney Volunteer of the Year award at the prestigious Phelan-Mostyn Medal Night. It was a hard-earned and well-deserved recognition for the endless hours dedicated to the club week-in week-out. Simply put, you were the glue that bound us together. You will be dearly missed Lorraine and from the bottom of our hearts, thank you. Thank you for never giving up, for feeding us, for caring for us, for loving us and for watching us grow as players. Rest easy Lorraine
01.01.2022 Next up we have first year player Jessica Ellis. Finishing equal 6th in the Sydney AFL - Best and Fairest top ten for Division 3. Congratulations Jess and we can’t wait to see what you can achieve in the future. #BOG Stay tuned tonight for the Premier division top ten.
