20.01.2022 Do you have any superstition ?

20.01.2022 Most of our commercial fisheries are now fully managed under management plans and the government has been working closely with Western Australian Fishing Indust...ry as the peak body and industry stakeholders to generate the strategies we need to respond to COVID-19. I am pleased to say we reached an early agreement with the rock lobster industry through Western Rock Lobster to provide certainty for the commercial lobster fishers and we’ve also been engaged with other fisheries and aquaculture operations to ensure we adopt management arrangements that will also support them at this time: https://www.mediastatements.wa.gov.au//Lobster-rescue-plan We have also been working with Western Australian Fishing Industry to identify appropriate management changes for other commercial fisheries. In addition, we are also in discussions with the council on potential whole of industry measures.

18.01.2022 We are very pleased to have had the opportunity to meet with the new Minister. It was fantastic to see him amongst commercial fishers. We couldn’t agree more with his statement. We thank him for making the time to meet with us.

14.01.2022 Morning news !!!

14.01.2022 Get down to Mandurah and check out the great seafood this weekend. While the CrabFest event has been cancelled it’s not all gloom as Mandurah’s restaurants and ...retailers are ready to go with hundreds of kilograms of freshly caught crabs cleaned, prepared and ready to eat. We’re told some local venues are organising events such a crab-eating competitions, so there’s still things happening and lots of fun over the weekend. Mandurah’s blue swimmer crabs are among the State’s most popular seafoods, so we are hoping locals in Perth and nearby regional centres are fired up and keen to support their community by spending time in Mandurah and taking advantage of the fantastic seafood specials over the weekend and coming days. For those who would prefer to buy some of these super-fresh crabs and celebrate at home, you’ll find plenty of tasty blue swimmers and other local seafood offerings at many outlets across Mandurah. Get down there and get yourself some crabs.

09.01.2022 Not WA but pretty cool to watch

08.01.2022 Twiggy's comments on WA commercial fishing sustainability given further clarity. The ABC has updated its recent online story which reported on Dr Andrew Forrest...’s aquaculture investment in Albany, to clarify that comments made regarding ‘illegal pillaging’ of oceans through wild-catch seafood fisheries referred to illegal global practices and not those of local fishers in Western Australia. Dr Forrest has stressed he was referring to global practices rather than those of local fishers, who he believes are the key to future sustainable harvesting in WA. The updated article is live and can be viewed at https://www.abc.net.au//andrew-forrest-cites-unsu/12016242 WAFIC is looking forward to working closely with Harvest Road to maximise our shared strengths and experiences. Thanks to those members who contacted us regarding this article. Southern Seafood Producers WA Association Southwestern FRESH FISH

07.01.2022 Many are doing it tough in these trying times but we’re working hard to protect and support jobs, minimise the effects of COVID-19 on our economy and protect ...the health of our communities. Enabling primary industries such as commercial fishing and aquaculture to keep operating plays a key role in our ongoing efforts to overcome the current crisis and come out stronger than ever. Commercial fishing and aquaculture operations help guarantee jobs especially in regional areas and ensure WA’s food security. They are an essential service and this is why they have been included in the determinations that established the current State border and regional border closures. If you work in commercial fishing or aquaculture or directly support the industry you can continue to work within the State.

05.01.2022 The Food Alliance WA was launched this morning with WAFIC as one of its foundation partners. The www.JobsInWAFoodAndAg.com website is a valuable tool for supporting skilled and unskilled labour around the State, so check it out.
