24.03.2022 Day 2 in Horsham saw lighter winds for the fly off rounds to determine the Victorian State Champion. 4 rounds flown, BBQ lunch provided by the Wimmera Model Aero Club, presentation and then we all hit the road to drive home. Congrats to Marcus Stent in 1st, Andrew Meyer in 2nd and Dan Haskell in 3rd. A great competition. Special thanks to our CD Robert Gunn
13.03.2022 There was a GPS racing day this coming Sunday. Unfortunately our calendar didnt take Mothers day into consideration. Mothers are more important than GPS racing so we will postpone the day to another.
23.01.2022 Found these pics from many years ago when Victoria Park in the city of Adelaide was the main SSL flying site. I believe these pics were from an Interclub annual competition we held at that time with the NSL ( Northern Soaring League). Fiercely fought comp! Many familiar faces, some sadly no longer with us, and many planes definitely no longer with us. Interesting to see the changes in our technology. Vic Park is still a great place to fly, particularly with the work the Council has done in recent years, as long as one keeps to the 400 foot height clearance. Paul
20.01.2022 Scores and a couple of photos from the weekends events.
20.01.2022 It was a really good flying day at Milang today. The usual variety of conditions ranging from nice in the morning to a bit breezy and difficult in the afternoon. We had about 11 fliers compete across the three 2m classes (2m F5J, Radian and F3RES), with 5 fliers who competed in all three events. We had a few non-flying helpers during the day, most notably our newest member Stewart Sibbons who timed in F5J, ran the Radian altogether and recorded all the scores in F3RES. A st...irling effort and he wants to come back next weekend for more!!!. Well done to Andrew for winning Radian and F3RES and to Greg for winning 2m F5J. We used 4 bungees for 18 heats of F3RES with very few issues thanks to everyone being sensible about launching and the retrievers dealing with the wind direction changes. The final results for each event are attached and the overall results for the Triathlon are below: Triathlon Scores 1 Andrew 2899 2 Greg 2617 3 Bill K 2267 4 Garry 2092 5 Connor 2065 Thanks to everyone who took part in such a friendly and cooperative manner. 19.01.2022 The new Covid regulations in SA that come into force tomorrow mean that we have no choice but to cancel the Bordertown Scale Glider event. It is not possible to postpone the event due to the terms of the CASA clearance for the aerodrome.

17.01.2022 Bordertown 2020 Scale Glider update Fellow Scale glider enthusiasts What a difference the last 72 hours has brought !... The new SA Covid regulations do not prohibit the event , but officials are advising against non-essential travel There are indications that there will be an update to regulations at a Press Conference tomorrow (Wednesday) morning. If the possibility remains to hold the event, I will contact the Tatiara Council, who own the Bordertown Airport, for their thoughts on the situation, and then make a yes/no decision. Even that may be subject to late change if things get worse in Adelaide, but hopefully that won't happen.
15.01.2022 Once again SSL will be hosting the Australian Open F5J event on the long weekend in March. Lock in being at Milang from 6-8th March :-) You can download the Entry Form here http://www.southernsoaringleague.club/open-f5j-internation/
14.01.2022 Sunday 8th November at the Milang Field, we held an Open Thermal (winch launch) competition run to Australian rules. There were nine competitors and we flew 7 rounds of 3 heats, 3 rounds before lunch, and four after. This format worked well, with allocated timers for each flyer in each heat, and a bye in each round to take a breather. It was a hot day for Spring, temperatures in the thirties, but pleasant. Wind was initially north east at about 10kph, and we launched cross wi...nd, then came around to the east giving us in line launches. The morning gave us fantastic flying conditions, lots of ballistic lift giving lots of ten minute flights and everyone was having fun. Then after lunch conditions changed, still some ballistic lift, but as should be expected, ballistic sink adjacent and one’s plane just fell out of the sky. Lots of fun too, but the flight times got shorter by a long way! There was some very good flying demonstrated, and none more so than by winner Mike O’Reilly who flew an almost flawless comp. Well done Mike! Garry Whitfield was second, and Mark Stone in third place. Thanks as usual to CD Robert Gunn, and to all those who helped. A great day of varied and challenging flying. Paul See more

05.01.2022 Started mowing the grass at SSL Park today. Grass had gone to seed and had dried. So to minimise any fire risk the grass has been mowed to about 150 mm height. The cut grass remains will add organic matter to the soil and help protect the grass over the coming summer heat.
02.01.2022 Sadly Murray Scott passed away today on his 80th birthday. Murray was a founding member of SSL and was our first President. He was also a founding member of Heathcote Soaring League in Sydney. From a control line background, Murray moved into RC and gliding. He was one of the first glider pilots in Australia to achieve LSF Level One and was number 433 in the world. Murray went on to fly nearly every facet of our hobby. Aerobatics, scale and helicopters were part of his long passion for aeromodelling. Our thoughts go out to his wife Bev, and children Alexis and Yolanda.
