15.01.2022 Article in the NDIS provider Newsletter featuring Southern Stay Southern Stay Disability Services finance and claiming team: Kripa Shetty, Alana Nash, Jodie Hamilton and Daniel Pearson ... Working with providers to improve payment requests The NDIA’s payment assurance program samples a number of NDIS providers each quarter to confirm payments are accurate. Feedback from a registered provider showed this can be a positive experience and lead to improved success with payment requests. Southern Stay Disability Services Inc provides accommodation and support services for people with disability in south-west Victoria and was one of the providers recently sampled. ‘The NDIA contacted us with a list of payment requests to be reviewed,’ said Daniel Pearson, their Chief Financial Officer. ‘Initially we were concerned about what this could mean, but we found the experience very helpful. ‘The Payment Assurance team explored and reviewed our records and recommended how we could improve. ‘Some of the suggestions related to service bookings and accurately reflecting the support start and end date for each payment request. ‘We’re still learning and things are changing all the time, but the NDIA staff supported us to improve our payment claims,’ said Daniel. Providers must keep accurate records of supports delivered and supply evidence on request from the NDIA. Southern Stay Disability Services successfully manages their payment requests through a client management system which connects with rosters and payroll. ‘We worked collaboratively with 5 other organisations in our region to purchase a good system,’ explained Daniel. ‘Every 2 weeks, we upload a bulk payment request in the provider portal and the NDIA pays us within 48 hours.’ The NDIA is working to improve the provider payment experience and the NDIS Service Improvement Plan commits to new systems to make sure providers are paid promptly and accurately. In August 2020, an average of 96.6% of payment requests were successful. Unsuccessful payment requests are often due to issues with service bookings.
