22.01.2022 We are delighted to welcome Patti Groza (formerly Kurasik) as our U12s Coach in 2021! I started playing soccer at Berwick City at the age of 10. I moved to Southern in 2019 to get a broader experience as a Senior player in the NPLW. I will continue to play and will also aim to obtain my C licence when it’s possible. While at Berwick, I assisted the All Abilities and Under 12 teams. I do one-on-one coaching, as well as, helping run soccer clinics. This year I was fortunate ...enough to coach the St Francis Xavier’s Year 11 and 12 Girls Soccer Team, and I am very proud that my girls won the SIS tournament. It is an honour to be appointed as the NPL Under 12 Girls Coach at Southern. I am delighted to be involved with the club on a deeper level, considering all the fantastic appointments of staff and changes for next season. Coaching the 12s means restarting what we couldn’t commence this year and aim for the best in 2021. As someone who cares a lot about positive progress in child development, I am so grateful to be on a platform that allows me to coach and mentor talented young players to grow physically, emotionally and intellectually. Kosta is the owner of 747Fitness in Dandenong and is no stranger to the football world. He has worked with over 500 football players (amateur, semi pro & professional) always focusing on their physical development (speed, strength, power, agility & fitness), and reducing the chance... of injury. 15.01.2022 UPDATE Firstly, we hope to find all our Southern United members and their families safe and healthy during these challenging times. With all 2020 competitions officially cancelled, we have finally received an update from Football Victoria regarding their Refund Policy. As expected, FV have had costs associated with trying to start the league twice this season, and therefore, are unable to provide a full refund on their component of the club’s membership fees. This means that... Southern United will not be able to pass on a full refund to its members. However, our committee is convening over the next few days to work out refund options to our members. We will send an email early next week with the details. Thank you all for your patience and ongoing support! We would also like to thank our most valued sponsors, who we will individually acknowledge in the coming days, for their continued support. Bracksy, as she is fondly called, has been with Southern since the club’s inception in 2016. She coached alongside Debbie Nichols - a partnership that has delivered 3 consecutive Grand Final appearances (2017, 2018, 2019), winning the U13 PS4 NPL Girls Championship in 2017. ... As a goalkeeper playing at a number of consortium clubs, Emma was quickly recognised as a talent and moved up the levels to play WPL, the state team and also in the National League. Emma has started down the coaching path working in tandem with Debbie to form a great coaching team and influencing future Southern United players from an early age. Emma brings experience and know what it takes to make it to the top level. She began coaching the U14s in the latter part of the 2019 season and is again very excited to continue working and help develop the skills of talented young players. After missing out on seeing the squad’s full potential this year, I’m excited and looking forward to getting back on the pitch. Deb is a former Matilda and a Victorian State player, Senior WPL Coach and FFV Hall of Fame inductee. She has made a long and significant contribution to the women’s game and is a very well respected member of the Victorian women’s football community. ... Deb’s coaching career has been very successful. She has twice been voted WPL Coach of the Year by her peers. Debbie was the former Head Coach at Casey Comets and Sandringham’s WPL as Senior Coach. She was also an Assistant Coach with Victoria Vision in the former Women’s National League now known as the W-League. She is noted for her strong commitment and development of young players. During her time at Southern, Deb has coached alongside Emma Bracken (Bracksy) - a partnership that has delivered an impressive 3 straight Grand Final appearances! 04.01.2022 CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT One great news after another, as we announce the appointment of Melissa Maizels as Southern’s Goalkeeper Coach for 2021! Mel started playing football at the age of 10, started coaching at 16 and obtained her first ... W-League contract at 18. She played for Melbourne Victory, Perth Glory, Canberra United and now Heidelberg. Mel has attained her Grassroots coaching certificate, all the way to Seniors coaching certificate, including FFA/AFC C licence and recently her B licence. Mel is also the Technical Director at Mount Martha Soccer Club. We appreciate your passion and commitment, and for helping the club in more ways than one. 04.01.2022 CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT! We are delighted to announce that Olivia Groves has been appointed as the Under 14s Coach and SAP Coordinator for 2021! Olivia has been with the club since 2017 as an NPL Junior Head Coach. She is also one of our Senior players. Her previous work includes Miniroo Coach for a number of years, working in football programs at schools, including Carwartha Football College Academy, and at Melbourne FC Barça as Camp Assistant Coach in 2018. ... For someone so young, Olivia is a qualified coach who is super passionate about youth development and technical football. She has a strong work ethic, as demonstrated during the suspension of football due to the pandemic. She kept her U12 squad active and engaged, having weekly zoom meetings and making the girls accountable. 02.01.2022 Now that we have announced our amazing coaching roster for 2021, we are privileged to welcome Sam Mlynarz as our newly appointed Technical Director! Hailing originally from East Gippsland, Sam is a passionate coach and coach educator. Sam is currently completing his FFA B licence and is the current Futsal Technical Director for Victoria and local scout for the Futsalroos. Sam has previously coached Melbourne Heart and Bayside Pirates in the National Futsal League and Victor...ian Women in the Trans-Tasman tournaments. He travelled with VIC Vipers to the AFC Club Championships in 2014, and was Assistant Coach to Brian Roberts at Box Hill in 2018 and 2019. "I am grateful for the opportunity to work with SUFC, to be able to assist in the overall development of the club. My aim is to provide every player and coach the foundation for them to achieve their personal best. 01.01.2022 CLUB ANNOUNCEMENT We are privileged to announce that Brian Roberts will take on the role of VPLW Senior Coach in 2021! Brian was the NPLW Senior Coach at Box Hill before he joined Southern this season as Technical Director - he will now relinquish this role. He was voted NPLW coach of the year two years in a row. Brian also played professional football in the UK, Finland, New Zealand and Australia. ... I’m sure to say I hope we don’t have another season like this in my lifetime! After a very difficult period for Southern over the last couple of years, certain individuals (past and present) within the club did a wonderful job to get the club to where it is today - with wonderful facilities, a fresh and new committee, and things put in place to support further growth of the club. I’m hoping to drive this club forward and am delighted to be given the opportunity to coach the Senior women into the future - starting with the young talents within Southern and looking to attract new faces to join the squad.
