25.01.2022 My to-do list for this week is kind of looking different to what I expected To start off with, I’m taking the day off today because it’s my birthday! Tomorrow, I’m going to spend a few hours getting ALL of the gear I brought home from the studio back and setting the studio up again - which is a task I didn’t see coming this quickly ... After that, it’s all about getting this new version of the website with a great singing tips section together! (Just between you and me, it’s starting to look a bit snazzy ) And, of course, teaching! Lessons are back in the studio this week, and I’m excited to get back into it! What are your plans for the week, now that we’re no longer in a lockdown?

There’s advice on getting practice in (and how to practice at home), there’s some great resources (blogs, videos AND downloadables) plus a couple of things you can look into if you get bored.... How long should I Practice for? When is the best time to practice? So, I thought I’d answer all of the most common questions in this handy guide on how to maximise results from your practice.... I also have a brief rant on why you really should be warming up your voice AND take you through the exact routine I use for my own practice. 09.01.2022 Public service announcement for all students with a permanent lesson time booked - Check your email! You should find your login details to the Practice Kit, which you can go and check out RIGHT NOW!! It’s still a work in progress, so you might notice a few things missing, but I decided to release it today instead of waiting until it was all finished because I wanted you to be able to benefit from it ASAP!... Casual students - you’ll now get a week’s access to the Kit with every lesson you book. Have fun exploring the Kit, and let me know what you think!

07.01.2022 1 year ago vs today! Did you know that just one year ago today, I was only just about to receive the keys for the studio? (Seriously, I got them on the 14th of Jan last year.) The studio didn’t have furniture yet - or even electricity. It was just a bunch of empty rooms. It seems like so long ago now that it’s strange to think it’s only been a year.... In just one year the studio has gone from an empty room, to a fully equipped studio to an amazing singing school. It’s super weird for me to see these old pictures again now, but at the same time it’s amazing to see how far this place has come in such a short time.

06.01.2022 Recently I was asked a great question - why did I decide to start a singing school? I got thinking about it (as you do) and realised that I can pinpoint it down to two different things. The first was when I wanted to take my own singing to the next level and decided to find a Voice Coach in my local area. And do you know what I found? Nothing. After searching for a few months, I decided to travel into the city for my lessons instead. So that got me thinking - if there WAS so...me kind of singing school in the southern suburbs that I’d want to go to, what would it look like? (As you’ve probably guessed, it looked a lot like Southern Voice Studio looks like now.) The second thing that inspired me to start a studio was my students! I absolutely loved teaching, but I always felt like there was something missing. I had all these ideas on how to make learning to sing easier, but could never act on them. So last year I decided that maybe my dream Voice Studio could become a reality - a place where singing students could come to grow themselves into absolutely incredible singers. At the time it seemed like a ridiculous thought, but I decided to try and make it happen anyway. And you probably know the rest! I launched the studio in February and I have had so much fun creating the studio and helping you wonderful people improve your singing voice. And you know what? We’re just getting started...

03.01.2022 I’m feeling VERY excited today (for 3 different reasons) 1 - I’ve been working on getting the Practice Kit ready for all of the amazing students at Southern Voice Studio, and it’ll be released very soon. (In fact, you may or may not have an email with more details on that waiting in your inbox... right now... ) 2 - I’m feeling super grateful because of the fact I actually CAN get you resources like the Practice Kit and opportunities like our recording session in October, bec...ause it was never possible before I started Southern Voice Studio. 3 - I’ve kept Diva the studio plant alive for 7 months now! (Yes, that is worth celebrating. I’m notoriously bad at looking after plants.) So there you go, 3 things I’m super excited about! Is there something you’re excited about right now? Stick it in the comments so we can celebrate together! (Even if it’s something as simple as keeping a plant alive )

01.01.2022 Quick Guide: Finding a Major or Minor Chord on a Piano [Save for later] I work with a lot of singers who would LOVE to accompany themselves when they sing - and some parents, family and friends who’d love to accompany the singers they know. But I often find that people have no idea where to start.... So I thought I’d share this quick trick I learned from my piano teacher, which has been the number 1 factor in learning to accompany myself. (Plus I managed to keep the video under 2 minutes, so it really is quick!) All you have to do is; Get yourself a chord chart for a song you love (just google the song title/artist and add ‘chords’) Work out what chord you need Practice changing between chords (this takes some time to get used to, so stick with it!) Sing along (or get someone else to sing along) with your chords This is a very simple method of accompaniment, but it’s a GREAT way to get started. Oh, and if you’re not sure what each note on a piano is, google it! There’s plenty of pics online to help you. Have fun!!

01.01.2022 Just like that, we’re finished for the year! And I’m kind of feeling a little bit emotional. It’s been a MASSIVE year since I opened Southern Voice Studio back in February, and I can’t believe how much it’s grown in such a short time. I’ve taught so many wonderful people, learned a lot about running a studio and quite honestly had the time of my life.... A lot of that has to do with the amazing people who have come in for lessons throughout the year - and even the people supporting from behind the scenes. So thank you for helping me make this such a great place to both learn and teach. I can’t wait to do it all again next year!!
