18.01.2022 As published on the Classic website before Christmas, we confirm that the 2021 Tournament has been cancelled. At its final meeting for 2020, the Classic Committee made the painful decision not to proceed with this year's event; with a majority of participating clubs being of the view that the various challenges and uncertainties surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic would make the Tournament unworkable. However, all of our member golf courses are "open for business", so if you are thinking of making a trip to beautiful South Gippsland or Phillip Island, why not book yourself a round of golf to add to your enjoyment of this fantastic region!
14.01.2022 The weather was improving as Classic golfers headed to the island for Thursday’s individual stableford competition. However, players still found the course pretty challenging notwithstanding its excellent condition. Morning Winners on the day included Dianne Gray (A), Shirley Smith (B), Wonthaggi’s Kevin Bayley (A), Neil Mani (B), Pat Barry (C). Afternoon winners were Dawn Andrews (A), Jeanette Mitchell (B), Alan Schache scored best in Men’s A grade, Geoff Hobson (B) & Peter Rosen (C). All results are on the Classic website https://www.southgippslandgolfclassic.org.au/results
08.01.2022 It was a busy day at Leongatha for Friday’s 4BBB stableford competitions with more than 160 golfers playing in the morning & afternoon . The locals had a reasonably successful day, but it was great to see a number of visitors also share in the winners’ spoils. For all the results, visit the Classic website https://www.southgippslandgolfclassic.org.au/results
07.01.2022 It was warm & sunny for the final day of the 2020 Classic & with player numbers approaching 100, some pretty good scores were recorded. A spread of Mirboo North locals & visitors shared the spoils on the day. As with other courses throughout the tournament, Mirboo North was presented in fantastic condition. All of the day’s results can be found on the Classic website https://www.southgippslandgolfclassic.org.au/results
02.01.2022 The 2020 South Gippsland Golf Classic is done & dusted ! Thanks again to all of the club ground staff, clubhouse teams, volunteers, our sponsors & a particular thank you to all of the golfers that played & made the event the fun that it was. The Classic Championship played at Yarram & Mirboo North over the last two days of the tournament was a very close affair. Axedale golfer Ruth Iser won her second A-grade scratch victory - this time on countback; while Mirboo North member... Simon McInnes won the men’s competition by a single stroke. Ruth (holding the Classic shield), is pictured below on the deck at Mirboo North on Sunday. Congratulations to both players! The Merimbula golf package draw was also held after completion of play at Mirboo North & local golfer, Freeda Nair won the women’s prize. Lang Lang golfer, Henry Sannen, won the men’s prize. Our numbers were down this year, (a number of factors seemed to be at play), so please share this with your golfing friends to spread the word & hopefully assist in getting more golfers involved next year. Also let us know if your experience - did you have an enjoyable time? Do you have any suggestions for improvement? Did you like the shotgun starts? We would live to hear from you.
01.01.2022 The course at Yarram was a credit to its volunteer team with many complementary remarks from visiting golfers who were in town for the first day of this year’s 2 day Classic Championship. A total of nearly 140 players competed over the morning & afternoon stroke & stableford competitions with some of the winners pictured below. For all the results, go to the Classic website https://www.southgippslandgolfclassic.org.au/results
