25.01.2022 | M-HN-3 | YIN TANG | CELESTIAL PALACE | Celestial Palace- that's got a certain je ne se quoi to it, doesn't it? You might feel like you get this point quite a lot during your monthly Acupuncture tune-up session. That's because it's a beauty. It sits right over your third eye and the pineal gland which controls our sleep-wake cycles. That might just explain why we sleep so well after having it - the little acupuncture needle stimulates the pineal function allowing us to drift... off promptly when we need to and wake up bright-eyed the next morning. From a TCM perspective, Yin Tang cracks open our mind, allowing us to integrate aspects of our daily life with our conscious and unconscious mind (which occurs during sleep) and also helps us to change our perceptions of the world and our experiences. Deep. That is fully deep. If you've got any pesky forehead lines it will start to ease those too - not just because your furrowing your brow less (although that's a thing that happens with Acupuncture) but because of the increased production of collagen and elastin that can happen when Acupuncture needles are inserted into the face. So what I'm saying is that Yintang gives you an endocrine tune-up, regulates your sleep, cracks open the doors of perception better than an Aldous Huxley novel and gives you ageless beauty. If that isn't nifty then I don't know what is. If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

20.01.2022 | ACUPUNCTURE | so....what's acupuncture like? It's a pretty strange idea right? You book into an appointment and ask someone to stick you full of pins. Well, it's not nearly as scary as it sounds. In fact, you barely feel at thing. Instead you feel a sense of warmth, maybe some heaviness and perhaps a sense of something in you 'moving' (that would be the 'Qi', but that's a discussion for another time). Most people have a nap and wake up feeling as though they've had a full night of excellent zzzz's. What are you waiting for? Time to give it a go! If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

17.01.2022 | REFER A FRIEND DISCOUNT | have you dropped into South Hobart Acupuncture recently for a treatment and loved it? I am super glad that Acupuncture was helpful for you! If they pop by for a treatment and let me know that you referred them I’d like to say thanks by giving you 10% off your next treatment. Because Acupuncture is a wonderful thing and I think everyone should have more of it. If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

16.01.2022 | RECHARGE YOURSELF | When was the last time you looked in your diary and scheduled ‘you time’? If you were to schedule it, what would ‘you time’ look like? So often we put our needs on the back burner. There are always jobs, families, friends, spin classes, lists, groceries and laundry to do. Without carving a little nook for yourself within all of that stuff, your ability to nourish yourself and grow can get squashed. Not making time for ourselves has a negative impact on ...our health. From a Chinese Medicine perspective this lack of self-care or time to nourish ourselves can lead to feelings of frustration, anger and irritability. These feelings stop our Qi from moving smoothly and make us more aggravated - it's a self-perpetuating cycle. So slow down. Schedule some ‘you time’. For me it’s a morning by myself in a sunny spot with a newspaper or a solo hike somewhere where I don’t see another person for hours. I use that time to breath deeply, recharge and reconnect with the true me on the inside. What do you like to do to recharge? If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

16.01.2022 | CHAMOMILE | MATRICARIA RECUTITA | YÁNG GN JÚ | Mmmmmm, Chamomile is one of my most favourite tea herbs. This super light and delightful flower is good for so many things - especially for all things relaxing and sleep-related. Firstly, it's a sedative, calming you down in order to sleep. It's also a spasmolytic, allowing it to decrease spasms in smooth muscles, as well as being a carminative which help to relieve sore-belly issues like bloating and flatulence. Lastly it's... an anti-Inflammatory herb. If you find yourself with a little skin rash (like Eczema or dermatitis) make a big cup of tea and split it in half. Drink one half (om nom nom) and cool the other in the fridge. Once the tea is ready, dip fresh cotton pads into it and use them as a compress on your sore and inflamed skin. Also, it smells amazing. Like fresh fields after ran as the sun warms them. You know what? I'm not feeling stressed or rashy, but writing all of that really makes me want to have a cuppa chamomile tea. I'm off to make one. Yum! If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

14.01.2022 | GUA SHA | this may look like a simple soup spoon, but don't take it for granted! It's actually a multi talented instrument used for a kind of traditional massage known as Gua Sha. We combine these in clinic with massage oil to glide them over the skin, tissues and fascia in a rhythmic motion (think shoulders, backs, arms and chests). This releases tension and tightness in bands of muscles. There has been research showing that by applying friction to tissues it is possible t...o increase microcirculation which induces a healing effect for a period of a few hours up to a few days! There is also an immediate endorphin release from the brain which causes a decrease in pain levels. If you have a cold or the early stages of a flu, Gua Sha can be used on the upper back to 'release' the sickness, giving you almost immediate relief from the sniffles. It can also be used on babies and small children (using a smaller spoon, of course) instead of acupuncture. In fact, kids love it! It totally chills them out and can help with any asthma, digestive or skin troubles. Once you've tried Gua Sha you will never look at the humble soup spoon the same way again! If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

13.01.2022 | ACUPUNCTURE FOR PREGANCY | Did you know that Acupuncture is fantastic during pregnancy? It’s a super gentle and effective treatment that will help guide you through growing your brand new tiny human. Acupuncture can help you with the nausea of the first few weeks, the back pain that begins to pop up later on, all the way to turning a breach baby and prepping your body for labour. It’s even fantastic after you’ve given birth to help your body realign itself and to increase breast milk. Have you had Acupuncture during pregnancy before? I’m pretty sure anyone who has had a session finished up looking and feeling as fabulous as Chloe Sevigny. If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected]. @chloessevigny

07.01.2022 | BREATHING | breathing is such a vital thing for life. Our breath circulates oxygen around our bodies; it allows for cellular processes to occur; it keeps us alive. Most of the time we don't even realise how we breath - or whether we are even breathing at all! But it can be such a tricky thing sometimes. When we have difficulty with our airways or we become stressed, breathing can become such a chore. Becoming mindful and taking notice of our breath can be a huge help - not ...just in how we breath but how it helps us in our daily lives and how it effects our moods. One little delightfully simple little breathing exercise you can do is to breath in through your nose and out through your mouth - both for a count of five. By making sure you breath slowly and fill your whole chest and tummy not only shows us how to breath, but how quickly proper breathing can help us cope with stresses. Next time you're stressed, give it a go!! If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

05.01.2022 | MIGRAINES + HEADACHES | Ack - migraines and headaches are literally the pits. They steal energy, drain the colour from the day, make you feel nausea and like your head is locked in a vice. Did you know that Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine is one of the best ways to reduce, clear and prevent headaches and migraines? TCM gets right to the root of the problem to stop them from happening - whether it be from overwork, insomnia, hormones, muscle problems, diet or stress. And while we’re working on those root issues, a few other things will generally clear up too! If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected].

05.01.2022 | MERIDIANS | did you know that Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture are based on channels that cross the entire body? Scientifically these channels have been shown to follow the fascial, neural, venous and stem cell pathways of the body. This means that by accessing Acupuncture points on the Meridians, we can stimulate the body in specific ways to create a very specialised effect. Having trouble with your tummy, or migraines or a muscular pain? Your local Acupuncturist can devel...op an individualised Acupuncture prescription that will balance your channels and internal organs. This will not only minimise your health issues but also begin to create overall harmony in your body. How fantastic does that sound? Need a tune-up? it might be time to visit your local Acupuncturist. If you’re interested, get in touch - 0408 402 512 or [email protected]. @yangsheng.acupuncture

01.01.2022 | YIN | YANG | in TCM we use two main systems to explain the universe - the Five Elements and Yin Yang. While the Five Elements translates to the seasons, how they affect us and the processes our bodies go through every year, Yin Yang describes the two opposing forces that make up the universe and everything around us. That's like, totally deep, right? Yang is bright, positive, masculine, warm and moving. Yin on the other hand is dark, negative, feminine, cool and still. Thes...e two forces are both opposing and complementary - your can't have one without the other. Yin and Yang are constantly moving, evolving and transforming - one into the other and then back again. Imagine a mountain, there is both a sunny side and a cloudy side. The amount of sun and cloud is always changing as the sun passes through the sky but the two things are always there. Life is caused by the coming together of Yin and Yang while death is their separation. TCM is based around ensuring that the correct balance of these two factors is always maintained - more Yang during the day, more Yin at night. We talk about keeping Yang held within Yin within the body (but that idea is a bit more tricky). The Tai Ji symbol encapsulates this idea in a lovely shape that shows how Yin and Yang are interrelated and inter-transforming. Like this image...oh wait, this one is telling us that the universe is made of kittens....Well, I quite like that idea actually. Scrap Yin and Yang. The universe is made of kittens.
