10.01.2022 If you're interested in yoga for trauma recovery I'm giving a session in this free online healing summit coming up this weekend. It's organised by Sarah in Victoria - a very generous person who decided to pull this together while home schooling her kids during lockdown. I give a presentation about how yoga helps you heal from psychological trauma, including guided breath and relaxation practices. I hope it reaches people who need ways of staying calm and strong during this very difficult year.

08.01.2022 This is your chance to learn how to play the harmonium and sing kirtan - only $20 for a 2-hour kirtan workshop with Melissa Howden. Then stay on for chai & bliss balls, chanting a Sanskrit healing mantra, and an hour of blissful kirtan. See you there.

08.01.2022 If you are feeling like you need some time out before Christmas, these day retreats at Murdunna have been very popular. A space to breathe, relax and just be in the noble company of others in the beauty of nature. There are still a few spaces left. Sangita

08.01.2022 Why Mindfulness Meditation? Last week I asked my mindfulness group to reflect on what changes or benefits they had noticed in their lives during the past 8 weeks. Susan (name changed) was quite emotional as she shared with us the following. She said, I’ve never thought of myself as a successful person, you know, I’m single and I’m in my 50s and I don’t have a partner. I also don’t own my house, I only rent, and my car’s not great. And I worry a lot about where I'm going to... be in 10 years time. But during these last 8 weeks I’ve come to appreciate that I have two beautiful daughters who i have a really good relationship with and who are really good people. When I’m lying in bed at night I have one cat on my right hip and one cat on my left hip who are purring. I love my cats. And instead of worrying so much about where I'll be in 10 years time, I'm just focusing my attention on today and not worrying so much about the future. She said, I feel content. Learning to practice mindfulness meditation doesn’t necessarily change the outer circumstances of life, but by paying more attention to our inner life we begin to get a new perspective. Instead of seeing that our lives are half empty (and having our attention on the empty part) we begin to see that our lives are in fact quite full, and our attention shifts to appreciating that. Still spaces left in the new Mindfulness courses starting tomorrow night. Would love to have you with us. Sangita

03.01.2022 When you think about it, our vanity is largely concerned with how we want to appear to others so that we will be liked, respected, and valued; so that we will m...ake a particular impression. So, what if we could drop this need to be seen in a particular way? What if we were secure enough in ourselves to not care! Watching the program about Cathy Freeman this week, I was struck by so many of the things she said, as were many of my friends. She embodied inner wisdom, acceptance & faith. She made the point that when there is nothing you can do to change a situation, when you have no control over it, make peace with it, and then be FREE. She was talking about the Press frenzy in the lead up to the final of her 400m race at the 2000 Olympics, so she simply made peace with the situation in her own mind, kept it seperate from herself as if it was on the other side of a window, and then was FREE. Free to focus on winning her race, living her dream, taking hold of her destiny. If you haven’t seen it yet, check it out on iview. Oh and to give a context, this term my Thursday night yoga class is focusing on Sivananda's 'ities'. This week it was Absence of Vanity. Sw. Sivananda loved to play with the English language and he made up a little song with 18 of these 'ities'. He recommended as well as practicing asana, pranayama, relaxation and meditation, it was important to cultivate personal disciplines and attributes. Here they are! Serenity, regularity, absence of vanity, Sincerity, simplicity, veracity, Equanimity, fixity, non-irratibility, Adaptability, humility, tenacity, Integrity, nobility, magnanimity, Charity, generosity, purity, Practice daily these eighteen 'ities' You will soon attain immortality. #yoga philosophy

01.01.2022 Early bird finishes this Friday! Love to have you join us.

01.01.2022 Thursday night students, I saw this post and knew it was for you!!! This term in class we are looking at Sw Sivananda's 'ities'. Along with postures, breathing and meditation practices, Sivananda taught that it was also necessary to cultivate personal disciplines and attitudes. He loved playing with the English language and he came up with a little song which has become known as the Eighteen ities of Swami Sivananda. Serenity, regularity, absence of vanity,... Sincerity, simplicity, veracity, Equanimity, fixity, non-irratibility, Adaptability, humility, tenacity, Integrity, nobility, magnanimity, Charity, generosity, purity, Practice daily these eighteen 'ities' You will soon attain immortality.
