25.01.2022 World Radiography Day (8 Nov) acknowledges the invaluable contribution the field of radiography makes to the diagnosis and treatment of patients and pay our respects to those who pioneered the field of radiography and radiology, many of whom suffered from radiation-induced disease. Across SMHS, Medical Imaging and Nuclear Medicine Departments facilitate approximately 290,000 examinations every year (each examination could involve multiple images). We thank them for their expertise and commitment in delivering outstanding patient care. #WorldRadiographyDay #SMHSValuesCare
23.01.2022 Did you know that carers provide over 42 million hours of unpaid care every week? This Carers Week we celebrate people like Angi, who has devoted her life to caring for her beloved husband diagnosed with Alzheimer’s aged 51. As a carer, Angi felt isolated from friends and realised there weren’t many social activities she could do with her husband. Determined to change this, she established the first Forget-Me-Not Dementia Support Memory Café and advocates for carers on the Fremantle Hospital Consumer Advisory Council. People need to know that they aren’t alone and that there are other people out there going through similar experiences and walking a similar path. #NationalCarersWeek
22.01.2022 Historic naming rights the new hyperbaric chamber at Fiona Stanley Hospital (FSH) has been named after retired Clinical Nurse, Helen Jefferies. After working in the Hyperbaric Unit at both Fremantle Hospital and FSH, Helen retired in April after 30 years with the team The first patient to use the new chamber, WA car dealership owner John Hughes, has been receiving hyperbaric treatment following extensive surgery to remove a carcinoma from his cheek. The much larger chamber means less claustrophobia for patients. #SMHSValuesCare #SMHSValuesExcellence

It requires an holistic approach to improving the client's mental wellbeing The Rockingham Peel Group community mental health service provides a range of programs and therapies to assess, support and rehabilitate consumers, helping them to cope with life's struggles and find meaning and purpose again. One of the therapies provided by the Specialist Rehabilitation Team is a group photography program encouraging consumers to practice mindfulness, learn a new skill, participate in their community, and discover talents they didn't know they had!
