22.01.2022 The first waratah of the season. Waratahs bloom most prolifically two to three years after fire. We had many in 2018 and 2019 after the 2016 fire. Not nearly as many budding up this year. This one is flowering very early.

18.01.2022 The recent heavy rain has gourged out many ruts on the tracks at the southern end of the Reserve, creating trip hazards. Please take extra care walking in the Reserve. We have made an insurance claim to resurface the affected areas.

Currently flowering in the Reserve are two plants that are usually said to flower in spring - Hardenbergia violacea, Purple Coral Pea & Kennedia postrata, Running Postman; and our iconic Grevillea macleayana, Jervis Bay Grevillea, that usually flowers late spring and summer.

05.01.2022 If you walk the Reserve from the Dowling St entrance you might not catch sight of this amazing stand of Allocasuarina distyla on the border of Coral Crescent near the South Pacific entrance. The rust coloured flowers on the male trees are looking spectacular at present. While adult glossies in this area feed almost exclusively on Allocasuarina littoralis, Charles Dove says that the adults teach their young to crack open the cones to find the seeds on A. distyla, because the cones are softer.
