25.01.2022 Conflict is an inevitable consequence of the fall. While honest open discussion and challenging of ideas can help us to learn and grow and appreciate others points of view, all too often conflict is nasty and people are deeply hurt. It should not be this way in the church of Christ. Sadly in 1 Corinthians the Apostle Paul was addressing numerous areas of conflict including one about authority and baptism. When our focus is on relationship with Christ and his Gospel our heart will be for people and their relationship with Christ, not our own self righteous arrogance. In today's climate of antagonistic confrontation how do we live as pictures of Christ? Pastor Stephen Thomas
23.01.2022 Wow, doesn't this visual representation turn things on it's head, literally. I have always known the logical implication of this verse; wherever we are we are Christ's. To live is to know him and serve him, to die is to know him face to face. The Apostle Paul was torn between what to desire more, in the end he saw it as his calling to serve the church even though he so looked forward to being in Christ's presence face to face. There is a lesson for us here, especially when things are difficult. Let's keep our focus on Christ's calling whether we live or die. Pastor Stephen Thomas
23.01.2022 POWER, PRESENCE, PROPHECY. We seek but do not find. In reality we miss the requirements for the Holy Spirit's power to be present in our lives. The promise was given to the Old Testament prophet Joel as part of a call to repentance and a promise of salvation and restoration, we see a fulfilment in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit was poured out on the believers gathered together. These believers had grasped repentance, they now understood salvation. Then the Holy Spirit was poured out in power.... Lord help me to come before you in an attitude of repentance so that I will know the work of your salvation in my life, Amen. Pastor Stephen Thomas
22.01.2022 When asked about money Jesus turned the trap into a lesson, sadly we are in danger of turning the lesson into an excuse. The responsibility to render to Caesar shouldn't be an excuse to render the rest to ourselves. The problem with money is that we forget it all belongs to God anyway. Concerns about money are common, fear of not having enough can be debilitating. 1 Timothy 6:10 and Hebrews 13:5 both address these concerns. In the end it all comes down to who we worship. "Note to self reduce stress levels by practicing what you preach". Pastor Stephen Thomas
21.01.2022 There is great encouragement when the light of Christ shines from people's lives. This week Pastor Toni and I have been greatly blessed and we are incredibly thankful for this blessing. We have also seen the light of Christ illuminate lives as his followers are transformed. Who we run towards determines whether we shine or are consumed by darkness. Pastor Stephen Thomas
20.01.2022 Grace, undeserved favour. The extent of God's favour is so great that we don't really understand it. So how about living in it; this is what we are invited to do. Pastor Stephen Thomas

16.01.2022 Afraid and alone is the situation of many people. You can be surrounded by others, yet alone in the crowd. When King David found himself afraid and alone he was often surrounded by the royal court but there was no one to turn to. Many of David's times of fear and loneliness were the result of his own horrendous sins which affected the royal court and the entire nation. Yet even in the midst of these times he remembered that the Lord is the one we should always be turning to; firstly in repentance, then in worship. Pastor Stephen Thomas
15.01.2022 Forgiveness is desperately needed in todays world, but how can forgiveness be truly understood without God. I believe that our picture of forgiveness is shallow unless it is based on a relationship with Christ. Only when we begin to appreciate the depth of the forgiveness we receive from God can we begin to truly practice forgiveness of ourselves and others as an act of grace; rather than simply the self preservation which frees us from the bondage of the hurt we have experienced. Pastor Stephen Thomas
15.01.2022 All to often truth becomes an excuse. Righteousness, Faith and Grace are often used to either excuse the hard work of obedience to God's commands to live a life of love, service and purity; or the claim to hold to these truths is made because a person keeps the law by living according to rules. These are both contradictions to the truth of Galatians 3:11. Verses 10 and 11 remind us that if you can't keep every rule then you are cursed, verse 14 that the Holy Spirit is received when we believe. Faith must result is a life lived in the power of the Holy Spirit because Christ promised that the curse is overcome through him. Pastor Stephen Thomas
13.01.2022 Our Sunday School Picnic was a great success, great food, good fun and many guests joined us. Much chocolate was consumed and no parents have contact me to complain that their kids were up all night! The ladies won the tug of war, twice. I especially noted the actions of the mums involved, waiting to see how things were going to go, assessing that only a few adult men joined in and then on mass getting involved at the last moment. Great strategy ladies. (I hope it was the quality & quantity of desert that kept most adult males out of the tug of war, anyway gentlemen that is the excuse I recommend). A big thanks to those who helped with the games! Pastor Stephen Thomas
13.01.2022 It only takes a generation for anarchy to rule. It only takes a generation for all memory of faith to be lost. Psalm 78 was a powerful reminder to Israel to keep telling the story; beyond the telling there had to be the living. In a time when both the telling and the living are obviously lacking we should not be surprised that anarchy is beginning to rule and that faith for the wider community is lost. We can blame other forces that are at play or we can realise that we are the ones who are called to do both the telling and the living, or perhaps the living first so that we win trust to do the telling. Let's not hide the Glorious Deeds of the Lord. Pastor Stephen Thomas
12.01.2022 Dear Church, Please check your email inboxes and take action. Thank you Pastor Stephen
11.01.2022 Blunt truth. In a world of measly mouthed official statements the simple truth of the Proverbs is something we sorely need. I encourage you open to the Book of Proverbs, have a read and take the humble approach of agreeing with the truth of Proverb 1:4 "These proverbs give insight to the simple, knowledge and discernment to the young" (NLT). Then rejoice in the truth and opportunity of Proverbs 1:23. Pastor Stephen Thomas
10.01.2022 Praise & Prayer night postponed New date to be advised
10.01.2022 Be still. Yep real easy to do in the contemporary world. Yet this has been the secret of the spiritual greats throughout history, even those whose workload was beyond belief. It isn't that we don't have time. Perhaps it's time we don't see we have. After all there is a reason the spiritual greats are known for bringing great. They did a great deal. Pastor Stephen Thomas
10.01.2022 Good planning and hard work are valuable, in fact most often God works through faithful service to his calling; however we must always remember at the end of the day everything depends on him. The danger is that we forget to listen to his calling in the first place or to continue listening as we work. The consistent theme has been, trust God and get on with it. Wait on him. Let's not be like the king who prepares for battle forgetting that the Victory belongs to the Lord. Pastor Stephen Thomas
10.01.2022 2018 is just as likely to be as tumultuous as 2017, maybe even more so! We cry out for peace and mercy yet are bombarded with news of suffering and pain. Your reply might be, thanks Stephen great way to start the New Year. What we focus on is what we see and do. There are many who are merciful, millions are lifted out of poverty, hurts are healed, justice is restored. Yes the world is full of sin, but it is also full of the love of Christ. Where is your focus in 2018, what will you do? Pastor Stephen Thomas https://biblia.com/verseoftheday/lightbox/EN_Matthew_5_7
09.01.2022 Thankyou to all who joined us for a wonderfull Christmas Eve service. Have a joyous day. Pastor Stephen Thomas
09.01.2022 Confrontation is always confronting; especially when it comes to being reminded of spiritual issues. Here again we are reminded of the startling truth that dwelling in God's presence is our intended purpose. Sadly we live in a fallen world and we are fallen so we now need to consciously come before our Heavenly Father through Christ. If we will accept his offer of grace with a repentant heart we are again invited into his courts of praise. "Lord thankyou for loving me and drawing me into your presence" Pastor Stephen Thomas
08.01.2022 Church Family Picnic. This Sunday after church meet at 12;00 at Sel Outridge park in Redland Bay for a picnic. This will also be our Youth Group event this week. BYO everything. Hope we will see you there.
07.01.2022 How appropriate that this is today's verse. I have just finished Sunday's sermon and having read a few articles am challenged by what "out of season" may soon mean. The Queensland Baptists Statement of Faith lists the minimum doctrinal requirements of membership. The first is "The Divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testaments" Everything we believe about Christ, about Grace, about the Godhead, about moral standards, loving others, service and mission follow from this position. Preach the word, be ready, doesn't just apply to your pastor!
06.01.2022 We don't fit in! There is a reason why we are different, or at least we should be; we belong somewhere else. In Philippians 3 the Apostle Paul urges us to live for God, not like those who give lip service to faith but in reality live for the pleasures of this world. Heavenly citizenship is valuable beyond measure, let's demonstrate its value by living for Christ alone. In Christ we belong, in Christ we testify to God's Grace, in Christ we are salt and light to the World. Lord let my citizenship be evident in all I do and say, Amen. Pastor Stephen Thomas
06.01.2022 This is the joyous truth of the Gospel. There is no condemnation for those who are in Christ. This isn't an excuse to sin, it is freedom from the penalty of sin. Each day we face a simple opportunity to live in sin and cause hurt to ourselves and others or to live for Christ and when we sin to receive grace. One will seek to pull us into destruction, the other to set us free. "Lord help me to each live day for you, in your freedom and grace for your glory. Amen " Pastor Stephen Thomas

04.01.2022 There is a cost that goes with this promise. Many people miss the important truth of context. The promise was given to King Solomon for the people of Israel, there was an expectation preceding it. It was never meant to be a get out of jail free card. The context speaks of suffering the consequences of falling away and then restoration. There are always consequences, Grace may reduce them, but let's remember we reap what we sow. So remember to sow that which is good and if you receive bad then that is what happens in a fallen broken world, you have at least obeyed the command of love; but if you sow bad and reap bad don't blame God. Pastor Stephen Thomas
04.01.2022 "Resistance is Futile" will immediately register for Star Trek fans. For those of you who aren't it is a warning given before an evil alien species known as the Borg assimilate people into a collective mind. Terrifying stuff! (By the way I do not believe in aliens, I suggest you read Alien Intrusion by Gary Bates, Creation.com). Individuality and independence are characteristics of humanity. Very useful for resisting alien species in Science Fiction, but all too often a sign of our rebellion against a loving God when it comes to growth in faith. Unity with God is something to be desired for there we find our purpose. Ephesians 4 talks of the process towards this relationship, an important part is to listen to those called to build up the body of Christ the church through teaching and preaching ....... Pastor Stephen Thomas
03.01.2022 The most important thing in the world is actually the most important thing in the universe. Jesus told many parables to illustrate what the kingdom of heaven is like. It is unlike anything else, so much so that you will give all you have to gain it. All that you have is you! In God's economy things are different. Love is given freely, Grace is offered to all who will receive, Redemption is paid for. The cost to you is simply you; nothing and everything at the same time. Pastor Stephen Thomas
03.01.2022 Refuge, seeking protection from harm. We talk a lot about refugees and asylum seekers but we in Australia today have little concept of what it has historically meant to seek refuge, to give refuge and to receive refuge. Ruth was vulnerable and in her dealings with Boaz we have a picture of the Lord's approach, an approach of generosity to those who seek. We also have a picture of how God works out his purpose through those we least expect. Ruth is the great grandmother o...f King David of Israel the ancestor of Christ the Lord of the Universe. What does it mean for us to seek refuge and to receive refuge from Christ who was descended from a refugee and was in his childhood himself a refugee? What does it mean to give refuge as we have received? "Lord help me to see myself as a refugee fleeing from the penalty of sin, entirely dependent on your grace for my salvation." Pastor Stephen Thomas
01.01.2022 This Sunday, We begin the Jesus the Game Changer Series. After the service we will be hearing from Col Stoodley about future directions and then Pastor Don will be leading a session on archaeological evidence for the Bible. Looking forward to a great day. Pastor Stephen Thomas
