13.01.2022 Friday 3/1/20 a fire which had started by lightning earlier in the week intensified in the hot dry winds tearing through almost half of Kangaroo Island. A shift in wind direction just before it reached Vivonne Bay meant that Southside has been spared, but unfortunately there are many others that were not. Sadly 2 lives have been lost, with houses, farms, stock, native wildlife and livelihoods wiped out. The Kangaroo Island council has set up an account to support those who have lost so much. If you can spare any small amount it would mean so much. Thank you (Offical link to council page in comments)

03.01.2022 While much of Kangaroo Island has recently been affected by fire, our accommodation and the Vivonne Bay township has been saved, along with the Vivonne Bay General Store And Bottle Shop. A large proportion of the islands economy relies on tourism (in addition to farming), so we would love it if you continued to come to help support this small community to get back on its feet. Flinders Chase National Park and Kelly Hill Caves National Park will be closed for some time, but... there is still plenty to see and do on Kangaroo Island.
