25.01.2022 She’s back!!! Welcome back to Dr Kate Jackson. Kate will be available Monday to Friday for appointments.

25.01.2022 Please, if you have been to the northern beaches in NSW let us know so we can arrange an appointment for you in the green clinic if you are unwell. Alternatively there are testing facilities available, and we can arrange testing over the phone for you. This will ensure our staff remain protected and can continue to look after you. Thank you for your co-operation.

25.01.2022 What an amazing crew we have at South Side Medical. We have had a very interesting year and tried our best to keep everyone safe. Thank you to all our wonderful patients who have helped us do our job well and listened to our advice. We know it has been difficult at times but we all got through it together.. Another thing we accomplished this year is an absolute baby boom! We welcomed Rosealee to Dr Hilary, Frannie to Dr Scott and Ronnie to Alyce. We are looking forward to welcoming Tali and Shay’s babies in April and Ciara’s twins in January! That will make 4 twin mums in our practice! We wish you all a safe and healthy Christmas. We will remain open all the days of Christmas except the public holidays.

24.01.2022 Our Mackay Showgrounds COVID-19 drive-through testing clinic has moved to the Big Shed undercover area The new swab and go drive-through testing clinic h...as relocated and is still open 9am until 4pm, seven days a week. Entry is still via Milton St - follow the signs. When you arrive, we’ll take your details, do a screening for your symptoms and COVID-19 risk, and test you. Please stay in your car and turn off your engine when you arrive. Once you’ve been tested, you’ll need to go home and quarantine until you get your results. Don’t forget the other testing options available - the North Mackay Respiratory Clinic is available for testing and a comprehensive respiratory assessment. Testing is also available at GPs and at mobile clinics across North Queensland.

07.01.2022 Updated information: From 1am Monday 4 January, anyone who has been in Victoria on or since 21 December will be restricted from entering vulnerable facilities, ...including aged care facilities, hospitals, disability accommodation and correctional facilities. While Queensland’s borders remain unchanged, anyone currently in Queensland who has been in Victoria on or since 21 December should get tested immediately and quarantine at home or their accommodation until they receive a negative result. We are closely monitoring the situation in New South Wales and Victoria and urge Queenslanders to reconsider non-essential travel to these states as it is an evolving situation. If you do decide to go to Victoria or New South Wales, you need to be aware of the potential consequences, such as border changes and not making it home to Queensland before hotel quarantine is imposed. If you’re already in Victoria or New South Wales, consider coming home. Stay up to date with the latest COVID-19 updates here: https://www.qld.gov.au//conditions/he/coronavirus-covid-19

06.01.2022 There has been a case of meningococcal sepsis in a child in Mackay. As a precaution people who had close, prolonged contact with the child have been treated wit...h antibiotics in case they are carrying the same germ and could pass it on to other people. The risk to other members of the community is very low. A person sick with a meningococcal infection does not easily spread the germ to others. The bacteria is found in the nose and throat of up to 10% of people and sometimes these healthy carriers may pass it on to others by coughing or sneezing. It is not known why these common germs sometimes cause a serious disease. Although the chance of further cases is very low, you should be aware of the symptoms of meningococcal disease. These may include high fever, headache, neck stiffness, vomiting, drowsiness and a red or purple rash that may look like tiny bruises in the skin. If a person becomes sick with these symptoms you should take them to a doctor immediately (day or night). Some types of meningococcal infection are prevented by immunisation we currently routinely give Meningococcal ACWY vaccination to one year olds, and a vaccination for Meningococcal type B is also available. A fact sheet about meningococcal disease is also available at http://conditions.health.qld.gov.au//95/Meningococcal-Dise
