06.05.2022 Mary River Flood Recovery Update #6 It is certainly good news that the damage to infrastructure from the latest flood event appears to be less than what our com...munity experienced in February. But it's still taken a heavy toll on our community. Many of us were anxious about what this latest flood event might bring and worked hard in anticipation to protect our properties. Understandably, this has brought about physical and emotional exhaustion for many of us. And with the concern over more rain coming, our feelings of anxiety may rise to the surface again. As part of our region’s recovery efforts, we want to let our community know about some services that are available to support our mental health and well-being following these disaster events. You can seek immediate assistance with Lifeline on 13 11 14. This is a 24/7 service. There are also online resources that you can access at www.beyondblue.org.au. You may also like to reach out to your GP. And of course, it's always a good idea to connect with your family and friends. Find out more at www.mentalwellbeing.initiatives.qld.gov.au

19.04.2022 Mary River Flood Recovery Update #5 Council will be undertaking repairs on Rocks Road, Pie Creek from 6am tomorrow morning. It is expected that the works will t...ake one day to complete. The works will be a temporary measure to address immediate road safety issues. Heavy machinery will be used and traffic controllers will be present to manage traffic flow. Rocks Road has been used as a detour for other roads that continue to be impacted by flood waters, including Glastonbury Road (Eel Creek Bridge). It was never designed to withstand the current volume of traffic, which is why the road surface is experiencing issues. The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) has set up a detour for Glastonbury Road commuters. They suggest travelling on the Wide Bay Highway and across Bells Bridge for transport in and out of Gympie. Please follow TMR directional signage. We thank you for your patience during these works. Please follow the directions of our traffic controllers and drive to the conditions at all times. For up-to-date information on road closures visit https://disaster.gympie.qld.gov.au/

16.04.2022 Mary River Flood Recovery Update #4 As flood waters recede, public health issues can start to emerge. For example: Flood water is not clean water. It can cont...ain lots of debris and other nasties. Keep out of waterways that have been impacted by the floods. And stay away from areas that have had flood water pooling until the areas have fully dried. Mosquitoes love breeding in all the pooling flood waters around the region. Keep yourself safe from mozzie bites by covering up and using an insect repellent. It’s a good idea to also check any containers around your home and tip out any pooling water. Many people are experiencing mould in their homes due to the rain and the ongoing humidity. It’s important to get on top of any mould outbreaks quickly to prevent it taking hold. There are other issues to be on the lookout for. Please visit our flood recovery webpage for information and tips on how to manage these issues in your home and on your property. https://www.gympie.qld.gov.au/flood-recovery

02.04.2022 Mary River Flood Recovery Update #3 Council is aware of traffic issues impacting Rocks Road, Pie Creek. Rocks Road is being used as a detour for other roads tha...t continue to be impacted by flood waters. Council is working with the Department of Transport and Main Roads to address the situation. We will continue to keep the community updated. We thank you for your ongoing patience and remind you that many roads throughout the region continue to be impacted by flood waters. Please drive to the conditions and refer to the disaster dashboard for up-to-date information on road closures https://disaster.gympie.qld.gov.au/

18.01.2022 Yesterday members of Tin Can Bay and Rainbow Beach groups attended a traffic control course. Members learnt skills to successfully manage traffic to ensure safety of both the public and themselves. Sadly though during night session we were called upon to assist other emergency services at a rollover. Members showed commitment to the community by answering the call and jumping into help. We feel sorry and send our thoughts to all that were involved in the accident and wish a speedy recovery.

14.01.2022 Lets say Hi......... Here at Gympie SES we are going to introduce you to some of our members. The people who go out in time on need to help you the community. The first person to kick this off will be one of our members at Rainbow Beach group. ... Let me introduce one of our youth members Mr Jarrod Hunter, who comes to SES at the ripe age of 16. I sat down with Jarrod and asked him some questions about being in the SES. Why did you join SES? Because I enjoy volunteering and helping out within the community. What do you like about SES? SES allows the groups to form a kind of second family and grow together and form strong bonds. The bonus is you can get cool skills such as drone (Remote Pilot Licence and cert III) flight management and Cert II public safety and more. What would you say to other young people wanting to join SES? SES has taught me many skills like working as a team and first aid and how to give back to the community and reinforce the world through hard times. If many people helped we can work to build a better world. So if you would like to be like Jarrod and make a difference in not just your life but your local community flick us a message.

10.01.2022 4:20PM GYMPIE - A small storm is tracking towards Gympie, it likely contains heavy rain directly under it and small hail. Image Weatherzone

10.01.2022 So I am sure you have heard about the possibility of a low pressure system coming down the QLD coast. What does this mean? If it does eventuate we are in for some wet weather over the weekend.... There is NO indication of flooding so Gympie no need to panic. But it is a good time to make sure your house is ready for storm season. The biggest request we get when we get severe rain is rain coming through the roof. We find that a lot of the time it is due to blocked gutters, so ask yourself "are your gutters clean?"
