25.01.2022 Attention people with pools! Always be careful when cleaning skimmer boxes. This is the place that snakes wedge themselves to stop drowning when they have become stuck in a pool. This photo is of a Yellow-faced whip snake on a pool skimmer box.
25.01.2022 Look no hands! I used a snakes natural instinct to flee to catch this adult Eastern Brown Snake without manhandling it at all. I set up my snake bag where I thought the snake most likely to flee and it went straight for the shelter offered by the bag.
24.01.2022 These Eastern Brown snakes were in a private embrace in a public space when I was called to remove them.
23.01.2022 Blue snakes are real! Over the years many of my clients have had loved ones disbelieve them when they said they saw a blue snake. This is a sky blue Common Tree Snake and my favourite tree snake colour!
23.01.2022 There is a common misconception that snakes in Brisbane go into hibernation in winter. This is somewhat true however due to our climate we have what we call Brumation. Brumation is used to describe a hibernation like state with the difference that the snakes can become active on warm days. Even in the heart of winter we see activity! So please educate family and friends to be snake aware all year round. And remember...snakes arent out to get you any more than their leggy relatives. The carpet python in the picture was in my kitchen door between the security mesh and the fly screen trying to avail itself of the heat coming out of my kitchen.
23.01.2022 Have you seen this ridiculous story? The snake in the photos is a non-venomous Olive Python. https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10212344864369727&id=1623235689
23.01.2022 Looking at the tail end of this Carpet Python you will see barely any tail. At some point in its life, it has been attacked or suffered some other mishap. The tail has been severed so close to the cloaca(vent), that if it was severed just a few mm further up, the injury would have been fatal. This is one lucky and very tough snake.
23.01.2022 This glossy black coloured snake is actually an Eastern Brown Snake. Not every brown coloured snake is an Eastern Brown and not every Eastern Brown snake is brown coloured!
22.01.2022 I saw this sign in the toilets at Boondall Entertainment Centre. I wonder how many snakes they had in the toilet bowl to prompt the posting of this sign?
22.01.2022 Two nights ago I was awoken by a 3.30am phone call by a woman who said she had just been bitten by a snake. It took several minutes to get her off the phone to Call The Ambulance!! Im happy to do a snake ID if a photo is clear enough but if you have been bitten apply first-aid immediately and call the ambulance. If another person is present they can contact me for an ID but a snake-bite patient should be lying still and flat and not be on the phone!
21.01.2022 Red-bellied Black Snake was hiding up on a table in the sports equipment, however it wasnt the kind of sport people expected!
21.01.2022 A Brown Tree Snake was ready for a staff meeting at a local school only to learn that he wasnt invited. The background commentry is very amusing!

20.01.2022 This video shows the release of a pair of adult Eastern Brown Snakes. The female shoots straight into the long grass. The male slowly exits the bag and follows her scent, he smells the bag she was in and then locates her trail into the grass where she is hiding. Snakes use their tongues to transfer chemical molecules into their mouths to their highly developed vomeronasal organ thats located in the roof of the mouth. The vomeronasal organ is also known as the Jacobsons organ and enables snakes to smell and taste odour particles.
19.01.2022 Poor Carpet Python just wants to be on it's way but the Magpie wouldn't let it move off. Everytime it went to move the Magpie attacked it.

18.01.2022 The snake that popped out between the handlebars while Ken Armstrong was riding his bike.
18.01.2022 Huge carpet python approx 10 ft was roaming around inside a family home at Stockleigh.
17.01.2022 https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10215722255722400&id=1623235689 This cute snoot and googly eyes are photographed one handed on my phone! Can you ID the snake? The answer will be in the comments....
16.01.2022 Due to the recent horrific story where they stabbed the snake to death to get it off a toddler, Im going to repeat the following information. There is an easy way to get a biting python off a person or pet. Alcohol or vinegar!! Get the (drinking quality) alcohol or vinegar into the snakes mouth anyway you can...snakes cant stand the stuff and will let go. Pulling at the snake will only make things worse because their teeth are recurved and the snake will squeeze even tighte...r. I keep a spray bottle of cleaning vinegar handy in the snake room for this purpose. The worst case I had took 3 doses of vinegar to let go, but it did let go, and left an easily manageable wound. Another horrible case due to human error. To date there have been no records of a Scrub Python eating people. As Chris pointed out, people may not have alcohol or vinegar handy. I suggest people keep vinegar in their First-aid kits like they do up north for the stingers. See more
14.01.2022 As promised we have got our licensing for rodent control. We are very selective about the baits we use because we dont want any secondary poisoning to pets or wildlife. Controlling rats and mice reduces snake activity by reducing their food supply.
13.01.2022 A late night call out turned out to be more than a python in the pantry. It turned out to be an Eastern Brown snake. He was desperate to get away and moved so damned fast we got nothing but motion blur on half the video. So we edited to get the best out of the footage. The rest of the catch is on the next vid.
13.01.2022 Not a snake but I had to share! This Huntsman was so thirsty that it stole a Papaya seed from my cutting board!
13.01.2022 During this festive season Ive had no shortage of snakes in BBQs. Not only does the BBQ provide a safe dark place to hide..it also provides meals. Rats and mice are attracted to the smell of BBQ grease and thus the snake has its meals delivered to its room...room service!
12.01.2022 Snake- Bite First-Aid Im still seeing a lot of errors out there with snake-bite first-aid so I have written up a snake-bite first-aid that is more comprehensive.
11.01.2022 A couple arrived home from holidays only to discover a snake was hanging out of the air con unit. It turns out that there two of them! These two tree snakes had their own ideas about a private room with air con!
11.01.2022 Cute Red-bellied black snake in a wheelbarrow at Jimboomba. Another example that venomous snakes can climb just fine.
11.01.2022 Have you seen the recent story about Brown Snake eggs in the sandpit? More Fear-mongering and ridiculous reporting. First they have to wait for the eggs to hatch before they can identify the species. I havent found any mention of using an incubator for the eggs that were removed. The egg numbers and egg shape are wrong for a Brown Snake as is the location. They are much more likely to be Water Dragons or Bearded Dragons. My money is on the Water Dragons!
11.01.2022 This Carpet Python went up the pipe to chase the rat and pulled it out into the open to eat it.
10.01.2022 Part 2 of the Brown Snake in the pantry. Seths idea of moving slowly wasnt what I had in mind.
10.01.2022 Due to the sheer volume of fear-mongering going on at the moment please bear in mind that snakes are only looking for food, shelter, water or a mate. They really dont want anything to do with humans and certainly dont want to be attacked by cats and dogs. They bite in self-defence and most people who get bitten are doing the wrong thing by taking it into their own hands. Consider Canine snake deterrent training for your dogs..it saves vet bills, grief and wildlife! Fencing a Dog -yard with snake-proof wire, colourbond, or even shade-cloth will greatly reduce the ground-travelling snakes that the dogs have access to. Ensure no gaps under fencing!
09.01.2022 Approx 5ft Red-bellied black snake near a front door at Boronia Heights today.
08.01.2022 The second tree snake from the air con unit.
08.01.2022 Poor Carpet Python just wants to be on its way but the Magpie wouldnt let it move off. Everytime it went to move the Magpie attacked it.

06.01.2022 Attention gardeners - please please check your netting. This Eastern Brown was terrified and in agony when he was trapped in netting. Im a keen gardener and get really mad when animals and bugs destroy my valued plants so I understand using netting to protect your plants. I just ask that you please check your netting twice a day at least. Netting results in a slow agonizing death for many animals including birds, bats, possums, lizards, snakes, gliders and more.
06.01.2022 We are well into mating season already and snakes are on the move looking for love! People often see males in combat and mistake it for mating. Mating is a gentle coupling compared to male combat which involves wrapping around each other and slamming the other to the ground! The victor gets to mate and the loser has to try his luck elsewhere. Pictured are Yellow-faced whip snakes mating.

05.01.2022 The resident of this bedroom in a nursing home was not happy for this water dragon to share their bed!
02.01.2022 A blue-faced honey eater and her chick got lucky when someone spotted a python going up towards the nest. The not so lucky python will have to find another meal..hopefully some rats instead.
01.01.2022 Lucky frog! Although he received several bites from the tree snake trying to eat him, this tree frog should recover to croak another day.
