24.01.2022 Screen time for a cause. Asylum seekers still need our support.

24.01.2022 Shedding a tear today on the passing of Jack Mundey - a unionist, environmentalist and fellow Green who did so much to make Sydney and the world a better place to live - protecting our green spaces (including in Erskineville), fighting for workers rights and giving the people impact in decisions that affect them. Long may your memory inspire us.

24.01.2022 China is in the news, again. The hurried departure of 2 Australian journalists, disappearance of another on top of the multiple trade arguments has been matched by the Chinese media's report of ASIO and AFP raids on Chinese scholars and journalists in their homes in Australia. Our webinar on Saturday is very timely. We ask: is it possible for Au.stralia to move out of the present dire relations and into a more rational and independent position with China. Saturday 12 Septemberr at 14.00 with Dr David Brophy (modern China historian at Sydney University) and Jenny Leong, NSW MP and facilitated by Viki Zhang, (researcher, Macquarie University). you can register here: Reboot sessions are open to members and non-members https://contact-nsw.greens.org.au/civicrm/event/register

21.01.2022 Please go here to send an email in support of raising the Disability Support and Carers pensions. You'll need to edit the email slightly if you are a not receiving one of those pensions but it only takes a minute and the disabled community needs your support. Higher costs and isolation are having a terrible impact on people. Thanks.

08.01.2022 ReBoot 2020 presents a webinar series beginning next weekend. 2020 is still the year from hell for most of us. As we struggle in the COVID pandemic and recession, following the catastrophic bushfires season, which followed the long drought, the Morrison government has failed to support communities and pursued a script straight from disaster capitalism. This has included many moves by the government away from ordinary parliamentary accountability and increased powers for the s...ecurity agencies. Meanwhile the state governments have embraced the police to enforce the health order restrictions and also cut back parliamentary sitting days. How do communities respond? How do we determine the changes needed that will serve our interests, not the interests of big businesses that have the ear of government? Our speakers - Zena Armstrong, Cobargo community, South Coast NSW Amanda Cohn, Greens Deputy Mayor of Albury and Local GP Josh Cullinan, Secretary, Retail and Fast Food Workers Union, and Lyn Stephens, Canberra Alliance for Participatory Democracy Facilitator: David Shoebridge MLC They will share with us their ideas on how to rebuild democracy, how to take on governments that put making profits before the needs of people, and how to defend workers’ rights and interests. Sunday 13 September at 1.00 - 2.30 pm Register here to hear them and join the discussion: https://contact-nsw.greens.org.au/civicrm/event/register Building Resilience - community democracy after the bushfires and pandemic CONTACT-NSW.GREENS.ORG.AU Building Resilience - community democracy aft See more

03.01.2022 I was on Newstart for years under the old rate (and genuinely looking for work). Even though my husband worked, he had to live on a low income too - because his income lowered what I received. How is that fair? The government doubled the rate as soon as they started the shutdown because they knew the old rate was too low and they couldn't afford to have such a high percentage of the population experience that level of poverty - or it would cost them government. We need to provide people with a livable income and provide professional support to help those who need work to find suitable jobs. We can't go back to $40 a day and employment consultants who do nothing more than police compliance

01.01.2022 Mehreen’s speech in the Senate this week, Black lives matter.
