24.01.2022 Our brave little man Patu swam away in a river of tears yesterday at 4.30pm in the expert care of Dr Don and Zoe. He had fought courageously for the last 8 week...s but his condition deteriorated markedly in the last 10 days. The combined weight of Noah's Ark Veterinary Services and Port Stephens Koalas were deployed to try and save him with a herculean around the clock effort. Marion and I were with him in his last moments. He fought to the end and his last memories would have been of his first yard where he learnt about the world with his Mum Eila were we let him rest after Dr Dons visit in the clinic. There has been a mighty commitment to Patu from our volunteers and staff. Erica and Zoe lead a large number of fiercely dedicated people who without their help Marion and I could not have got through. I buried him this morning at the Koala Hospital 20 metres from where he first saw the world. His grave is marked by a ‘Just Joey’ standing rose. They say the most beautiful flowers grow from tears. - Ron Land Please help. Your donations and support are needed. You’ll be playing a major part in the support and care of our koalas by providing the much required funds to keep our organization going! www.portstephenskoalas.com.au/donate
24.01.2022 THIS JUST IN: The NSW Bushfire inquiry has made it clear that climate change was a key factor in the devastating fires that ravaged the state last summer. The ...conditions last summer were horrific, worse than anything I’ve seen in almost 50 years of fighting fires. I saw flames running over mown grass," said Climate Councillor and former NSW Fire and Rescue Commissioner Greg Mullins. Climate change means that bushfires are now much more dangerous, putting Australian lives and livelihoods at risk.
