16.01.2022 International FADS Awareness Day Bunbury Districts Local Drug Action Group will host an ONLINE Pregnant Pause’ to mark International FASD Awareness Day on 9th September. ‘No Alcohol during pregnancy is the safest choice’ is the message going out across Western Australia with a pregnant pause being held online September 9th, coinciding with International Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) Awareness Day. International FASD Awareness Day is observed on the 9th of Septembe...r each year. On this day, the ninth day of the ninth month of the year, we have an opportunity to pause for 99 seconds, to recognise the nine months in which alcohol and pregnancy do not mix. The ‘Pregnant Pause’ provides a unique opportunity for community members to participate and engage in the conversation about alcohol consumption whilst pregnant. The event also symbolises that alcohol consumption during pregnancy is a community issue and not just a women’s concern. Despite FASD being entirely preventable by abstaining from alcohol, one in five women continues to consume alcohol despite knowledge of pregnancy (FARE, 2016). The Pregnant Pause being held by the Bunbury Districts Local Drug Action Group raises awareness about FASD, a preventable condition caused by alcohol use during pregnancy, which can lead to permanent problems for children like developmental delays, poor growth, birth defects, abnormal brain function and behavioural problems. For women who are pregnant, breastfeeding or even planning a pregnancy, not drinking alcohol is the safest choice, with more research suggesting it could be the safest choice for fathers to abstain for alcohol whilst planning a pregnancy also. Lozz Williams said. There is confusion about whether small amounts of alcohol during pregnancy are safe. However, health experts state that there is no known safe level of alcohol use during pregnancy. The pregnant pause is highlighting the message that the safest choice is not to drink when planning a pregnancy, during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, and that partners and communities can support women not to drink during pregnancy. Each pregnancy is different and women and women who has already consumed alcohol during pregnancy it’s important to know that there are benefits for stopping alcohol use any time in the pregnancy. If women are concerned about their alcohol use during pregnancy, they can speak to a health professional or call the Alcohol and Drug Support Line. Alcohol and Drug Support Line Number 9442 5000, or country callers toll free 1800 198 024 For details regarding this event and to participate, please visit our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/ See more

If you would like you to be part of the Real Row of Prams, we can send out an important message to every one which is- Look away for 2 seconds when you are driving at 60kms an hour and you miss... 33 metres or 27 prams. It might only be a second or two, but if you are checking your phone or finding your sunnies, you are not looking at the road ahead. We thought that if could film a real row of 27 prams with real Mums, Dads, Grandparents, babies and kids, it would help everyone to know the distance of distraction.
